As porous as Knick's interior defense is, why didn't Jordan Hill get more playing time? Was he injured?
Hill wouldnt have fit D'Antoni's system so he got thrown away. Besides, which D'Antoni has ever played D?
The upcoming games against, Denver, Memphis, Oklahoma City, LA, San Antonio, and Utah will give Hill and the Rockets some better tests. Scola and Landry’s outside shooting are being undervalued here, they are both very well rounded players. Landry not only fought it out around the basket but could hit from all around the floor. If Hill can develop an outside shot, or how soon he can develop that shot remains to be seen. Scola has been playing ball forever and Landry only truly started showing toward the end of last year. Hill’s inside game looks good, he is very aggressive around the basket and seems to be willing to do the dirty work required to be a good PF; as for weather or not he will play behind Yao next year: Our PF and C positions have a pretty versatile cast, much like they did at the beginning of this season. Next Year: Yao, Scola*, Hayes*, Hill, Anderson, Jeffries** * Scola and Hayes need to be resigned ** Jeffries will see less and less playing time; with his expiring contract next year, and Hill grabbing his minutes he may be involved in a trade. Yao’s effectiveness and minutes will both rely on how he comes back from surgery. In any case pretty much everyone on the list is faster than Yao when it comes to moving up and down the court. Hill could see significant playing time as Yao’s backup; Scola’s productivity has almost always increased with his playing time, so it’s safe to say with Yao’s more limited minutes, particularly early in the season, the combination of Hill and Scola looks way better than Scola and Anderson or Jeffries. As much as we all appreciate Hayes and what he can do on the floor Hill’s size makes him a more suitable choice to share minutes with Scola. That is if Hill progresses over the rest of the season and into the summer. In cases when Scola in not in the lineup, we would have Hayes - Anderson, or Hill - Anderson. In the Hill-Anderson lineup Hill would be the easy choice for C on the defense and Anderson on offense. At that point it really wouldn’t matter who is getting subbed in for who because both starters are getting rest.
He reminds me of a bigger and taller Latrell Spreewell. The way he hustles up and down the court on every possession, his powerful two hand dunks, strong rebounds etc.. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W_AlEb3YrNw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W_AlEb3YrNw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> I'm loving our future.
Scola will be resigned, not sure about hayes, jeffries will almost certianly be traded by the deadline
Yao's backup will not be in there for scoring, he'll be there for defense a la Mutombo and Chuck Hayes Hill is a 4 project, we need someone else for the 5
The dude is already significantly better than Dorsey. I hope he reaches his potential since he seems like a hard worker.
I wonder If Hill and Brooks/Lowry/Chase could incorporate this into the Rocket's offense <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dTehsoap_vc&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dTehsoap_vc&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I like how Hill goes after a block. He doesn't care if he fouls the guy but he makes sure he gets his hands on the ball and knocks it down. Reminds me of a smaller Mutombo but not as aggressive or even going back to Thorpe. Other teams need to have some more respect in the paint against us. Just look at the night we played at Utah, was a layup drill. I can't wait till next year with Yao's presence in the middle and Hill coming over from the weak side to help on blocks.
i love that Jhill is excited to be playin in Houston, i gotta feeling hes gonna be a rocket for a long time
The funny part in this is that Hill - though 1 game does not make a player - and the players from the picks may end up being better players than the players NY ends up signing.
Sounds like a dream, but you never know. I certainly prefer the path Morey's taking over that of Walsh in New York, who's gambling with the future of that team, I mean really gambling with the future of the Knicks over at least the next decade on the bet that he'll land two of the top tier free agents this summer. A mad bet, borderline insanity, if you ask me.
I agree. If I was a gambling man, I'd rather be holding the Rockets hand than the Knicks. He might pull it out with some good FAs but I think the odds are really slim that the Knicks dream will become a reality given what they currently have to offer which is less money than if the true max player can get at home and few good trading pieces. So while Hill may not turn out to be Bosh (though we can dream), he might be a good Boozer clone (numbers not style) who I suspect will be 1 of NYC's signees. And a Gay (another NYC prospect) clone might be had for one of their picks.
Not sure if it's been posted already, but it's a nice article on Jordan Hill; I especially liked this quote by Battier. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6907462.html
So horrible of a bet that if he loses, they will have to wait until 2013 to get a draft pick. So not even tanking can help them. Their 2010 pick is gone to the Jazz thanks to this same mentality by Isiah. Their 2011 pick is ours if it doesn't fall number one, and 2012 is ours if it's not a top 5 pick... The Knicks are in this situation right now because of these super high risk moves. Hopefully it doesn't pan out for them. Morey has so much flex, even if we don't get a FA through SnT it's almost like a 'So what?' we still have Hill, maybe the draft lotto this year(although I hope for playoffs) NY's picks, and already a really good team if Yao returns in good strentgh
