If this trade does not happen, we will likely not be trading McGrady. So think of this trade as getting something instead of nothing.

Jordan hill is a project, but a good hardworking player. He was the No. 5 pick last year which means a lot of teams thought he was a good pick up. Even with all that, let's say he does not develop a good offensive game, and only develops as a rebounder and good defensive player (which he has good instincts and the skills to become one), you would be talking about a legit 6' 10' player who is slightly worse than Chuck Hayes. You honestly would not take that type of player? Heck if he can learn to hit that 13-15 jumpshot at 40% and make a layup, he would be the perfect PF to play with Yao.

Add to that at least 1 First round pick, and possibly (likely) improvement on a 2nd First round pick, and this is steal. I honestly cannot fathom why NY would even consider this, because of the huge risk of not getting 2 Tier I or Tier II or Tier III stars this off-season.

Then add that even of the players we do get, they will not likely see the court, and Jefferies and Hughes would not likely learn the system well enough and help the Rockets play badly (and pseudo-tank) for the rest of this year to get a good pick this year.

This is a no brainer trade.

    Jordan Hill is a bust

    He's been criticized for :

    -being lost on the court
-criticized for lack of work ethic
-mentally weak (as tina pointed out today re: his twitter)
    -5.4 fouls per 36

    Jermaine O'Neal...

Similarly, sometimes the concern is he can blossom into a player with another team AFTER your team. IF Hill were on the Rockets he could be injured next year then fall behind on his progress, doesnt get picked up then goes to another team and puts it together. Its just part of the calculated risk. Its not like signing Amir Johnson to MLE based on 3 games with some nice dunks.

Yeah he could be Sean May, Shelden Williams, Ike Diogu. He might be alright like like Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes. Maybe he can be like Kevin Love. At least you get a clean look.

Clyde Drexler wasnt even a full time starter his first 2 years in the league.

Were you around for the '92 draft? Remember who the "exciting" pick was? Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner. Thank god we didn't go for the "exciting" pick then, or we'd probably still be chasing our first championship. Exciting ≠ good. Exciting ≠ wise.

Well i think the Knicks came offering stuff to Houston.

Surely, they'd have other offers for McGrady which is why no panic was ever in thought.

If Houston needed a team they would have already done the deal by now.

Please stop with that dumb argument. A lot of good players struggle to see the floor for any number of reasons. Kyle Lowry rarely saw the floor in Memphis. Tracy McGrady never saw the floor when he was with Toronto in the late 90s, but when he went to Orlando, all of a sudden he could score 25 points per game. Luis Scola never even had the opportunity to try out for the Spurs, yet look at him now. And Carl Landry didn't get significant playing time until late in his first season either.

Just because the guy hasn't seen the floor much this year doesn't mean he sucks, doesnt mean he doesn't have good potential, or that we can't get excited about him.

    A Really Difficult Decision
    By Tommy Dee - Feb 16, 2010 8:16 am

I read a note by one of the local columnists who described Jordan Hill working out well after practice and I just want to make sure that fans understand that is very much common place with the Knicks rookie.

Walsh told reporters a few weeks ago in talking about Hill that his range as a shooter has surprised him the most.

During practices, Hill regularly drills jump shots, something that he didn’t do early on in training camp and in the regular season. He also has worked on “counter moves” in the post, which allow for him to showcase his nice touch. Sometimes he takes a bad shot, and sometimes he rushes one, but all in all he has the makings of a very nice inside/outside game.

he's a role player and can be a very good one at that. but he has no star potential.

the knicks' hesitation to trade him b/c they think of him that way. he'll be a good player for them when they get that superstar.

This reminds me of when we traded Alston for Lowry.

All those people saying "He sucks, he's a backup on the Grizzlies LOL!"

Yeah....Great coaches bring out the best in their players. It's no coincidence what RA has done with these guys...

Im just going to throw this out there that a player can't be a bust before he has even completed one full season. Just saying.

i am not relying on Jordan Hill to come and save the franchise, but after reading some of these post, could he really be any worse than Jermain Taylor? Just saying, especially if we are bringing up the word "Potential" ??????

There is 2 teams Chicago and New York.

For Chicago they are competing to do the same thing New York is doing so it's no suprise to me. New York and Chicago are now negotiating to the pieces that we would be moving McGrady for so it's no suprise to me again.
Either way it's NY and Chicago on about McGrady. So if it's been discussed evidently Chicago has made the better offers and NY does not view it as a potential franchise saving move and this is what it boils down too.

worst case scenario is a very athletic backup 6'10" pf/c.
best case would be Lamarcus aldridge...

honestly this kids future is a complete mystery, but dm is no slouch ;)

Stern has to do a double take before reading his name. He is like what the heck are the knicks doing.

Look at his footwork, I still think this guy can be a player. At least here he'll have guys to learn from like Yao, Landry, and Scola...plus...he has a former teammate in Cbud, so he may be happier

and I meant before the Lowry trade, not many here were high on Lowry.
