People here like to say that JHill will replace Carl Landry. Actually, I think he has the potential to really do something, and I'll be disappointed if the most he becomes is Carl Landry.
I just want him to be a Defensive Beast. If he could be at least a poor mans Ben Wallace that be Huge for this team.
I think trading Hill is going to be one of the biggest mistakes the Knicks ever make. He has the physical tools and has the drive to become better. I could really see him turning into something special.
There is more to basketball than the athletic tools and hard work to utilise them. There are some things that some guys never "get", regardless of how hard they work at it, for example court awareness, vision, overall basketball IQ etc., the more instinctual than mechanical stuff. I'm little baffled how some have high hopes for Jordan becoming for example a major shot blocking threat in this league. His shot blocking numbers are non existant for a guy with his tools. He can probably learn to become better at it, but most likely he will never be known as a shot blocker. There's of course much more to defense than that so he can learn to contribute in different ways in the defensive end. Most likely, Joey Dorsey + 2 inches + even longer wingspan and with same athleticism as now would probably be one of the best rebounders in this league and a major shot blocking threat. A little shorter Dwight Howard basically. He still wouldn't know how to score and would foul out a lot, but still he would be much different to Jordan Hill.
Don't ever put Jordan Hill in the same sentence as Joey Dorsey. Comparing Hill to Dorsey in any way is a travesty and a disgrace to Hill's name.
Did anyone hear jvg say if ny doesn't get lebron, this trade will be the worst trade in ny knicks history.
Hill plays decent defense. He locks down on the post-up, blocks him out, and grabs the rebound. I've seen it on plenty of occasions.
Judging by how he shoots freethrows, I would guess JH will develop a good 15 foot jumper. He has also shown some flashes in the post. I wonder if he will be able to take 2-3 dribbles and take guys off the dribble a la Amare.
After having one of the worst nights of my life and having it continue on today, this made me lol'd. Thanks!
If he becomes Carl Landry with his size and ability to rebound, you're talking about an All Star. I'll take it for sure.
Well from this old vid it looks like he could.It is a pick up game so. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/F5D_phze-7A&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/F5D_phze-7A&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="385"></embed></object>
Well, duh. But Hill has already shown some good instincts for a big man, namely his "nose for the ball" on the boards. Granted, Hill hasn't exactly played big minutes, but I'm pretty sure Joey Dorsey made around four times as many mistakes in his 30 min. of NBA playing time as Hill has in the last seven games or whatever. He's played very well for a rookie who saw virtually no floor action during the first half of the season. I'm not predicting he becomes a star or anything; I guess I just don't see "lack of instincts" becoming a major stumbling block in Hill's progress
Yeah, I'll agree with that. There are just always some people (not necessarily you) who automatically assume that because one player has the tools and some level of work ethic, he will automatically learn to use them. I think Hill's rebounding skills are indeed nice. While Dorsey probably is the better rebounder, he as you said, can't figure out for his life how to stay on the floor without the mistakes and fouls.
