Gasol couldn't get it done in Memphis, so the Lakers should have never traded for him either. Garnett couldn't get it done in Minnesota. Ray Allen couldn't get it done in Seattle. They all have rings now. Just because their supporting cast isn't great, it doesn't mean they are bad.
You know it's hard enough to convince Bosh/Stoudemire to come to Houston and what's even harder is to get Scola's or Lowry's permission to a s&t anytime soon if one of them is asked to be thrown in the deal unless the team that wants him is willing to overpay which rarely happens on role players. So I think you will see one of these players/assets moved if a significant trade is to happen: Brooks/Budinger/Hill/NY picks/2010 pick(after we draft a certain player of course). I highly doubt Battier/Jeffries would be wanted more than expiring contracts to make salaries match and you're not going to get equal value with Yao/Ariza/other scrubs. I personally hope DM can work his magic with Budinger/Hill/Battier/Jeffries/NY picks and keep Brooks & the 2010 pick.
All of them were in the western conference and to the my best recollection, none of them lost to a 7th seed in the first round. Bosh is a quality player, but I wouldn't be willing to trade a whole just to get him.
Bosh is clearly a cut above Scola, but for Scola's price or likely new contract, Scola's a great bargain. If you extrapolate his 30 min/game to 36 min/game that Bosh plays, he'd average about 18 and 10.5. Bosh averages 24.5 and 11.4, clearly better than Scola, but you get what you pay for. Scola's clearly gonna get a raise, but so will Bosh and I think the league still doesn't appreciate how good Scola actually is. Landing Bosh would be amazing, but if it doesn't happen, Scola's pretty damn good. I personally wouldn't mind trading Brooks while his stock is high for a guard who's not as big a liability on D.
If he can help get Bosh, so be it, but don't call him a "throw in" when New York didn't want to include him in the trade which caused Morey to end discussions with the Knicks.
uh, trade proposers...isn't Scola a free agent after this season? Might affect a sign and trade for Bosh if he isn't interested in going to Toronto
A couple of problems there: (1) Scola would have to agree in principle to a new contract with Toronto (that also makes the salary cap math of the sign-and-trade deal work) before any such trade could happen, and it's unlikely that Scola will want to do that before getting a much better feel for his true market value. This could scuttle the deal altogether, since neither Bosh nor Toronto is going to wait very long after July 8 to get something finalized. (2) The Rockets will have to make that lottery selection for themselves on draft night, since they won't even be able to TALK to Chris Bosh until a week after the draft. So, the pick will need to be one that both (a) the Rockets like as a piece of their own puzzle AND (b) Toronto would happen to also like very much in a sign-and-trade deal for Bosh. Other than that, it's a slam dunk!
Jordan Hill is trade bait. Daryl Morey is the baiter, a master baiter. However, even a master baiter goes home empty handed sometimes.
I'm so tired of people posting their opinions as facts. How many posters are going to call Jordan Hill a "throw in", when every report is to the contrary? There was a report prior to the deal that Walsh was trying to hold on to Jordan Hill. Another that said any McGrady trade would include a young asset. How do all signs not point to Jordan Hill? I'm sorry, but Jordan Hill was not a thrown in and he wasn't included just so New York could "rid" themselves of his "albatross" 2.6M contract. Jordan Hill is a good player that Morey genuinely wanted -- whether he becomes a piece in a larger deal is irrelevant. He gives us options in that regard, but that wasn't the purpose for his inclusion.
Hill was not a throw in .You dont throw in youre Lottery pick in a cap space clearing trade unless you have to.Looks like Morey did his home work and got another steal like scola.
I agree with you to some degree but Scola isn't someone who would take us over the top. If you get Bosh a Scola would not be needed. Scola is a solid sources of pts and rebounds but will not out score or out defend anyone. That is what the Rockets need imo. Most importantly players that can out score. Especially in the 4th quarter the Rockets are known to <s>suck</s> stand idle and fold when opposing teams start to turn up their defense. The Rockets seem to only have a couple weapons that can rise in the clutch, AB who can close with a 3 pt dagger and possibly Martin. Landry could post in the clutch that's why I didn't like seeing him go. He provided a lot. AB is a near top PG. It will be hard to find a better PG that other teams would be willing to trade. With better players overall burdens will not be as heavy as it is now on the defensive end.
It can go either way. The Rockets have 20 games plus practices and travel time to learn more about Jordan the player and Jordan the person. That this the earliest they have to decide whether or not he is a keeper or someone else's potential 4 with endless potential. If he continues to develop and shows the needed signs that he is a future cornerstone, then no, he isn't just trade bait. He could be that starting 4 next to Yao or that first big off the bench behind Yao and the starting PF. If he doesn't improve as much as the coaches and front office hopes AND you get a superstar PF who says they want to play for the Rockets, then the Rockets would subject him as trade bait... So bottom line, it's too early to deem Hill as trade bait. Unless the OP knows something that we don't know like how DM was going to land Gerald Wallace before the deadline this year...
No offense, but why are you criticizing those of us basing our assumptions on facts (like the Knicks' salary cap situation and Morey's own press conference comments), when you yourself are basing your criticism on SPECULATION reported on the Knicks/Rockets trade talks, most likely coming out of New York? It is a FACT that the Knicks' had to clear Hill's $2.7M in 2010-11 salary in order to be able to offer two max contracts. That, or trade BOTH Wilson Chandler (who they value more than Hill) and Toney Douglas, and even then would not clear quite as much room and may be sweating whether they'll have just enough room. Your "news reports" did nothing more than make New York fans feel better about Donnie Walsh's pick of Hill last year and make those same fans think that the Knicks actually cared about anyone on their roster nearly as much as they care about cap room and the "Illusion of Lebron James".
