I wonder why the Clippers waived Wang Zhizhi.

The Lakers drafted Sun at 40th pick, Marc Gasol at 43rd. If they only wanted Sun for marketing, then why not use a lower pick? And according to Mitch Kupchak, the Grizzlies wanted Sun as well in the Pau Gasol trade, but the Lakers refused. Remember, you don't get marketing money if you don't play the guy.

Sun played well in the Olympics and he had two 9 assists and 1 TO games in the NBA summer league in 07 -- tell me that is easy to do. He is a versatile kind of player, already blocked Melo and DHoward before he even made to the NBA.

Even if Sun Yue wasn't brought over here for some kind of marketing reason, he is way over his head in this league. I only suspected that because I can't see any other reason they would be interested in such a poor player. I don't even see him as a project.

After going up against the lousy guard play in China during his development, it will take 4 or 5 years for him to become an average BENCH player and that is assuming he works his tail off to get stronger and improve every single aspect of his game.

If he doesn't put in 110% effort starting YESTERDAY, he will be back overseas in the blink of an eye.

    that's a euphemism for mediocrity.
MJ used to played on high-school all-star games, and got blocked by high school kikds, and none of these kids ever made it to the NBA.

You are dumb. Versatile is not the word only used by me. Go tell that to nbadraft.net.

Yeah, MJ was not that good in high school, but Melo and Howard were already super stars in the NBA when Sun blocked them.

Yeah, and V-Span "owned" Chris Paul in the 2006 World Games as we heard a zillion times here from a couple of people. Nobody gives a flip about 2-3 plays in a non-competitive Olympic contest because it doesn't mean zip about whether Sun is good enough for the NBA.

Remember Sarunas Jasikevicius burying Team USA in 2004? It was an amazing display and I'll never forget it. Seriously. But what happened when he came to the NBA? [crickets chirping]

One word, adjustment. It is much harder for star foreign player to come here and start all over as a role player, especially if they are not athletic or a liability on defense. Most foreign players who have succeeded in the NBA came when they were young, so it was easier for them to adapt. I'm not saying Sun is gonna be good, but some of you guys wrote him off before ever watching him play. He is decent athletic, big for guard position and really likes to play defense. And he had played two years in the ABA so he is at least used to the style of play here (and life here), even that is a far inferior league. Jury is still out on him.

You have no base to claim someone sucks before watching him play.

As with V-Span before he joined the Rockets, I've only seen Sun play a very little (including his 2 minutes of fame this season). If he ends up making it, I'll eat crow for 7 straight days. Anything can happen, but I didn't see much potential. But like you said, he's still on their roster so the jury is out.

the pre-season scrimmages against Lakers scrubs in training camp, pre-season games such as the one where he played 4 min and had the following stats:
    • 4 TO, no assists, 3 fouls and missed all 3 FT

Not sure Sun really can be considered a "big man." Yeah, he's 6'9" but he plays point guard for the Chinese I believe. He's an intriguing project though. I would like to see how he develops in the future.

I hope he gets better. I don't wish injury on any player.

you obviously have problem with reading comprehension. does "all-star" mean anything to you.
    • placing Melo and Howard above MJ, who is only the greatest NBAer of all time, is the height of stupidity
btw, Yao got his shots block more than a few times, some of the blockers were mere scrubs, some of whom are no longer good enough to be in the nba.
your inability to be more descriptive suggest that he did ok, nothing more, which was the case.
to add perspective, note that WangZhiZhi was one the most dominant scorers on several NBA summer league seasons.
he is an ok kind of player in the Olympic and NBA summer league. he was one of the better ones in the ABA; that's not saying much. in Lakers pre-season scrimmages and game, he has shown that he is just not NBA-ready.

the Lakers got lucky the other night against the Knicks, otherwise they would be looking at a three game losing streak.

finally the soft as Charmin Lakers are coming back down to Earth.

With the way the Lakers have been playing lately, the Celtics may be undressing them for all the world to see on Christmas Day.

Sun Yue sucks plain and simple. I was watching the laker's exhibition game against FC Barcelona, and he must have the worst ball handling skills for a point guard I ever saw. He was shaky as hell and the other team kept stealing the ball from him. Plus he had a lot of offensive fouls for pushoffs.

he has problems just bringing ball up to halfcourt

There's 21 million reasons that getting Marbury might be difficult for them...

He's been pretty vocal about not giving up his paycheck - so unless the Lakers can pay him 20mill (nope) or he can go back and convince the Knicks to buy him out for 20mill (which they tried and he refused - hard to see them offering it again?) then one wonders.

I'd bet the Lakers don't want any part of Marbury's insanity either!

Odom + Walton for Mabury I'd do it. If Phil Jackson can handle Dennis Rodman, Marbury woud be a piece of cake. Also we could use another guard who can break down a defense

    think first.

    Marbury has a $21 M price tag.

at any rate, Famar was a very good pg for the 2nd unit, running the offense. Marbury is just a scorer and running the offense isn't in his DNA; he doesn't fill the bill.
