LOL - here come the boot lickers....how dare I question the great and powerful OZ. I am just saying that everyone witholds stuff they hear. Clutch, in all honesty, when did you hear about the team almost getting Dwight Howard? DD
No youch, intended, I just believe that folks hear things and make a choice as to whether or not to blog/report it. No great secret or conspiracy implied here, again, just common sense. DD
Sure people withhold some information, but in this particular case clutch proved that he was talking about this stuff months ago. I am not one of those that lick his boots either just stating facts something you have a tough time dealing with.
Feigen did his best trying to be a responsible journalist and get all the information before writing a story. DD wants Twitter/Blog type news. No responsibility/just post whatever you hear before someone else does type "journalism".
Reek, that is not true at all, nor is it what I am saying - the point I am making is that the Rockets are sensitive to certain topics and most folks that are covering them are aware of that and use their judgement in what to write or not write. Nothing more - it is all common sense really. I will give you a personal example, I was working as a sports reporter/intern for KSAT 12 in San Antonio covering the Spurs when Larry Brown was there, and I promise you we all knew he was out there screwing around on his wife at the bars with coeds all the stinking time, but no one reported it - even though it would probably have been newsworthy. You just use your own judgement on what to say or not to say. DD
Not sure when, but Scola did an interview were he was saying that the players needed to stop bytching about the coaches and just play the way the coach says to play. It could have been before the trade deadline? I don't remember were I saw the video. zzopt.
Another classic DaDakota backpedal job. Sure, you weren't implying in any way that the media that covers the Rockets is controlled by the Rockets, that if it's not approved by the Rockets that it doesn't get out there.
You have to be used to this by now. DD throws wild conclusions out as facts, then when presented with facts, he becomes more general or vague about his comments.... JF does need a good relationship with the Rockets, but lets not forget that JF BROKE the story with quotes from Lowry.... further, he has said he believes Martin will be dealt.... As for you... well, you have been very honest about your opinions of the Rockets and their handling of players..... you flat out used the term "torpedo"... I also believe you concerning Lowry, as I know for a fact that Lowry is a very emotional and competitve guy... he has stuck up for McHale before and has said bad things.... he did the same with Adelman..... the guy is just emotional.
Oh come on Clutch, that is not what I am saying, that they control what is said - at least not directly. However, what do you think would happen if anyone reported or leaked the Dwight Howard rumor BEFORE the trade deadline? Why do all the leaks about stuff always come from the National media guys and never the ones closest to the team? Are you implying that the local guys don't hear those same rumors? Or, do they hear them and make the decision not to leak them? DD
I think in general dakota makes a valid point in that some stuff is best kept a secret. Clutch also makes a valid point in that with regards to this specific Lowry issue he had been on it for months. In the end both have good points. No reason to keep continuing this discussion.
I don't think Clutch is a mouthpiece for the Rockets - like I do think Feigen is - but I do believe everyone holds things back. DD
What is wrong with twitter news.......if it comes from a valid source such as Adrian Woj or in the NFL Adam Shefter? It is the fastest way to get news in regards to trades, FA signings, etc. If you are still the type that reads the chronicle in the morning waiting for news to hit you need to get with the times.
Some things are held back by the local guys simply because they are a fan of the team and they dont want to hinder the team from making moves by letting the cat out of the bag too early and cause trouble in completing a deal. I didn't see Clutch answer dada's querie about when he first heard about the possible trade. But I do suspect, with his connections, that he knew about it while the discussions were ongoing before the trade deadline and before it was discussed in the media prior to the deadline. Now, since the cat is out of the bag, he is free to publish that we are going after Dwight again right now as we speak, without regard for privacy because a Dwight trade is going to come down to the team that puts together the most attractive trade package to Orlando.
DD is like the conspiracists on the D&D Forum who like to post threads about how main stream media is keeping a certain story quiet (allegedly to help Obama and the liberals or to screw Ron Paul) while linking to reports from the same main stream media. Anyhow, Feigen and the other local media are not going around to all the players to dig out quotes about how everyone hates Kevin McHale or whatever, but it's not like they hide stuff. When Kyle Lowry and McHale had their dueling comments about "adjustments" after a game, it was reported. When Luis Scola broke a huddle after shootaround with "Shut the **** up and play!" it was reported. Terrence Williams' comments were reported. Hell, even Kevin McHale talked about how coaching was difficult for him and that he was agonizing over whether he's cut out for this early in the morning and calling Morey about it right there on the frigging podium after a game. The team isn't sharing everything with the media (no team ever does) and the media isn't going around giving up to the minute happiness level updates on each player all the time. However, there's enough info out there for people to figure out the state of the team if you just have some basic reading comprehension abilities.
"Anyone" - it would be no different than all the rest of the twitter-chatter speculation and gossip swirling around. "Feigen" - he would have one less party willing to give him information in the future. Because national media guys aren't going to harm their relationship with their sources. Regardless of who they depend on, reporters aren't going to bite the hand(s) that feed them. It's just dumb. You'd get your one big story and ice yourself out moving forward. They hear it all, so do Bill and Clyde, but they also know that personal issues between players, coaches, and front office guys are as common place every year as they are in the real world. They're around to report on basketball not be NBA In Touch Weekly. When the bad blood starts affecting performance and W/Ls, it gets out. Usually not directly through Feigen, but in an op-ed piece by a guy like Solomon. You know that's the case. Beat writers of all people aren't employed to stir up drama. That's what national guys like Vecsey or SAS make their living off of - being fed embarassing scoops from parties with an axe to grind.
