Sometimes the basball union tries too hard. This man is financially secure now. So many greedy people wanting to grasp for all the millions they can, individuals be damned.

The first 7 years of his career were all going to be individual team options, every single season the Astros would have had the right to keep him or cut him. It isn't as if he's locking himself into something he wasn't already locked into. Without this contract, his yearly salary wouldn't even crack 1 mill until 2018, his total earnings probably wouldn't get to 10 mill until 2019. A whole lot can happen, he may not even be a good baseball player.

If he does turn into a great player, he will be 30 and in line for a massve contract anyhow, so will that few million he may of sacrificed really matter? Basically the only way this deal could possibly bite him in the A** is if something catastropic happens in that one year of free agency he gave up.

To a person like Singleton, who is unlikely to have any skills that don't involve this game, the possibility of failing at this without even hitting it big is far to much to risk. But don't tell the Union that, they are more worried about making him even richer once he's already rich, than making sure he's set to live a comfortable life.

This post went longer than I thought it would because greed really pisses me off. You can't take it with you a$$holes

I'm just going to think positive.

Welcome to the Stros' Singleton! Ignore the critics, and just enjoy playing baseball.

Agree, he should ask bud "if I don't take the deal and don't succeed at major league level, you gonna send me a couple million to take care of my life?"

Decent read on why Norris may have said what he said:

    Le link.

Regardless as to what I think, I hope Jon made the decision he thought is best. No matter what we think, all that matters at the end of the day is that he is happy with his decision and it motivates him to get his career off and running. Some people thrive at the prospect of having consistent money coming in with job security while others thrive when they work for the next big contract that can make the current one look like peanuts.

So, one of the tweets mentioned Bo saying Singleton may hit 6th tonight? Any guesses on the lineup tonight with a lefty on the hill?

    2B - Altuve
    RF - Springer
    CF - Fowler
    3B - Dominguez
    C - Castro
    1B - Singleton
    DH - Carter
    LF - Grossman
    SS - Villar

    Just my guess.

Castro will be cleanup and it seperates the lefties, but otherwise that seems about right.

Yeah, sorry Bud, but the Union has never given a damn about younger (pre-FA) players.

    C - Castro
    CF - Fowler

Our line up in 2 years? Possibly a better DH and LF. Thats a scary line up if some of the young guns continue to improve.

I'd switch Fowler & Springer too. Fowler's ability to get on base is about all he's bringing to the table at the moment.

Grossman wont be in the lineup in 2 years. Santana will be in the majors by this season and will start in LF. Preston Tucker will be our DH.

    2B Altuve
    CF Fowler
    SS Correa
    1B Singleton
    RF Springer
    LF Santana
    DH Tucker
    C Castro
    3B Dominguez

I'm still holding out hope for DeShields in CF.

Yeah I've thought that seemed pretty clear to me too. When Springer was going nuts, I was a believer in not messing with things.

But now that he's cooled off it just seems like common sense to put the high OBP guy in front of the run producer, and not the other way around.

I don't mind Bud being opinionated, but you don't say something negative about another player's decision to sign a contract. Singleton signed a deal he wanted to sign. He shouldn't listen to the Union, who doesn't have him as an individual in their best interest, and he doesn't need to do what his agent says either.

Bud Norris has made under $10M in his 6 seasons. Less than Singleton is now guaranteed.

I'd be afraid to mess with Altuve, but Fowler makes more sense leading off for me. Of course having Altuve on first helps open the pull side for Fowler.

You sure about that for guys like Singleton? I understand for a Harper/Trout/Strasburg.

How would Lloyd's or whoever calculate what his future earnings would be since he's never played in MLB?
