Dude, I just answered a guy's question. No need to look into it any deeper than that.

But if you want. I can put it another way. Prince Fielder had an OPS+ of 143 during his career. I also don't believe Singleton would put up that. Happy?

We'll come back in 2020 and settle this like men.

.850 will get him way more than what he is getting under the current contract

If we start a tipjar bet today, would the actual payout require a predetermined interest rate or need to adjusted for inflation? :)

Anyway, only bothering to continuing respond to this topic because of Parsons and slow day at work.

I'm trying to contain my excitement about these young guys. I just know we're gonna trade these guys in a few years.

I can guarantee there is no way these guys are getting traded. 0% chance.

I guess I was a little confused. It's the team options that can get him to $35m not any incentives. Doesn't seem quite as good for Singleton now that I really looked for it but I'm sure the young man did what he thought was best for himself and his family. He's a guaranteed millionaire so to it's not like he lost in this situation. He just didn't gamble on making lots more but this is sports. There is no thing as a "sure thing".

Are they able to renegotiate or extend it early? If he starts grumbling about outplaying the contract or if the team wants to extend him can they? Can they decline an option at age 28 for example and sign him to a 4 yr deal?

Teams extend contracts early all the time, but it won't be any time soon. If he hadn't signed this contract the Astros were only obligated to pay him 500K for the first 3 years, he won't truly be underpaid until 2018 at the soonest, and that's if he becomes a star. Mike Trout, who is the best player is baseball, will have only made 7 million over his first 4 years. Singleton is set to make that same amount over his first 4 seasons, but then he could start to become significantly underpaid.

A lot of variables, but i could see the Astros extending him a year or 2 early, but they won't raise his salary in the years already committed.

Question is, how do their "running through sliding glass doors" games compare?

Wonder if Buck Turgidson will remember this quote: "Hunter Pence is the next Willie Mays"

I am still looking for players or agents that complained about Longoria's original contract or how the Rays extended it while there were still years left on it. With the exception of Longoria actually playing a few games at the MLB level before signing (imagine Singleton signing his contract next Monay instead of yesterday), it is the same situation at the start.

Wasn't the actual quote "Hunter Pence is the next Anthony Michael Hall"?

No, this was something completely unrelated to anything other than the last river trip taken with my ex-wife in 2007. :)
