Bummer -- so much for my "Jon Barry as assistant coach" idea. As much fun as it would be to have him broadcast games, I think he could ultimately do the most good for the franchise in an assistant coach/shooting specialist role.
From hearing his quotes, Barry doesn't appear to be interested in the Rockets job as more than an audition tape for better things.
It could be that, or it could be that he doesn't want to openly express interest in somebody elses job.
Good news. So I guess we'll be working w/ a 3-man broadcasting team? JB will make a good commentator IMO, he is a good speaker and is funny. One thing you have to admit about Clyde...he does THE BEST Deke impression.
With some of the other stupid ish people post around here, you can never be sure if someone is being sarcasit or not.
Bill: You know what I like about the new Yao, his intensity on the offensive end. Clyde: goo goo ga ga Bill: Look at that Head go...Clyde you used to get down the court like that in your days. Clyde: ga ga poo poo -Anyone else get the urge to stick baby food in his mouth to keep him from talking?
You know Worrell is no legend of broadcasting either. Yao goes to the FT line. Worrell: Yao is a good FT shooter, nearly 85% for the season, hardly ever misses Yao misses. Worrell: I jinxed him. I'm not going to mention how good a FT shooter Yao is ever again.
I imagine it's diplomacy, as you pointed out, and being a bit coy about his longterm interest. Jon is sure to be wondering what sort of a postion he'll be offered by the Rockets, and anyone else, and the pay range. I think it's great news, and I hope the Rocks lock him up with a broadcasting contract.
Bill: "My doctor just said I have prostate cancer." Clyde: *Doctor Hibbert chuckle* "Ya gotta love it."
