Don't know or care who "Paradis" is, but it wouldn't be as hard as you imply to move, so I encourage you to make the jump asap.

Just for the record, you're bashing HIM for anti-American sentiments? In a thread about a story where he went far out of his way to respond to a young fan?

    Well played, sir. Well played.

Vanessa Paradis is his partner/wife/ whatever (i don't think theyre legally married but they have 2 kids and live together).

and for the record, I'm not bashing him for anything. Landlord Landry was bashing him for anti-American sentiments. (dunno if he was serious or not)

as far as making the jump ASAP, I already have and I live in Tokyo and it's better than 98% of any U.S. cities. Yeah, it can get expensive but there is almost zero crime. I don't need to worry about drunk a$$holes at clubs starting fights, people stealing my bag when i go to the restroom, somebody mugging me for my cash, etc. etc.

And as far as being a foreigner in a country, it can be expensive and take some time to learn the language. So, "making the jump" takes some time and planning. I bet you've never even left the south.

What I don't understand is why so many Americans get their panties in a bunch if someone says something negative about the country. Especially if an American does. How does that make any sense? "GTFO of this country then Philip Nolan!" Depp made some comments to the French media when GW Bush was in office (possibly the worst American president in history).

how can anyone fault him for that? Even people who voted for Bush disagreed with his actions.

What are Depp's Anti-American sentiments exactly? Because if it was just about being against a couple of wars, how would that be un-American? As far as I know, he lives in France because he doesn't have to worry about Paparazzi's as much. George Clooney lives in France too (or Italy, I forget).

He was born in Kentucky, for crying out loud. Depp's a great actor, as well as being a hell of a fine human being.

    He said,

"I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots.

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive. My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."

(Johnny felt this was translated poorly and not what he really said to the German reporter - see next quote)

"Taken in context, what I was saying was that, compared to Europe, America is a very young country and we are still growing as a nation. It is a shame that the metaphor I used was taken so radically out of context and slung about irresponsibly by the news media. There was no anti-American sentiment. In fact, it was just the opposite. I am an American. I love my country and have great hopes for it. It is for this reason that I speak candidly and sometimes critically about it. I have benefited greatly from the freedom that exists in my country and for this I am eternally grateful."

"France, and the whole of Europe have a great culture and an amazing history. Most important thing though is that people there know how to live! In America they've forgotten all about it. I'm afraid that the American culture is a disaster."

It isn't a big deal. If you are offended and don't realize that our government and culture is f*****(although we are improving a little). Then you really should never leave the south.

Yes, in France a celebrity can often live something approaching a normal life (whatever that is). Heck, the President of the country, Nicolas Sarkozy, lives a far different life than President Obama. He certainly has a lot more fun. Clooney has a big place on Lake Como, in the north of Italy.

Will admit my opinion of Depp was lessened after his "dumb puppy" anti-America comment, even with his adjusted statement.

Still, he makes good movies and takes the art of film making seriously. Its all you can ask fo with a performer in ANY craft in any industry. (And oddly, I do agree that America is lacking in vivacity.)
