The SEC isn't going to be the challenge I originally thought it would be.. injuries to key players... now Tenn losing four rotation guys because of gun possession. Maybe only three teams in the SEC left with a chance to actually beat UK.
Pretty impressive even off the court. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qClnkcdlapk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qClnkcdlapk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
http://www.lex18.com/news/john-wall-is-frustrated/ Hayesfan do you know anything about Wall and Coach Cal? Have they clashed at anytime?
Cal's comments after the South Carolina loss were too strong IMO. But for Wall to carp about it like this publicly makes me wonder if he's thin-skinned and hard to coach. We'll see how it plays out.
wonder if cal's constant downplaying of the team is wearing on wall. cal is always talking about how the team could be playing better, and that they werent really undefeated etc. i figured it was more for the press clippings, maybe hes constantly negative in practice and such trying some motivational tool.
Nah I haven't heard anything. This is the first I have seen of his comments. John did have a bad game against South Carolina... but he wasn't alone. I'll have to check my "sources" and see if I can find anything else out. Kid may have just had a bad day and vented to the reporters. They are all so young... we tend to forget they are still angst filled like any other teenager.
It's probably a motivation ploy. Cal had pretty strong words to say about Wall's plays. Any 18 year old who is going to be the top pick isn't going to react in the best way no matter how even headed they are.
http://kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=43100 Like I said.. angst filled teenage drama And... UK fell to 4 so wrong.
How is Wall more NBA-ready than Evans and Rose were? I mean I've seen him thoroughly throughout the season... I just don't see how he's that NBA ready.
True.. but I'm talking about people that are saying he's like that right NOW.. that's what I'm questioning.
They are saying his potential is higher than Rose... not that he can enter the NBA right this second and replace Rose. He still needs experience but at this point, he's farther along in his development than Rose was his freshman year.
I can agree with that, but I've heard some say he can handle all that NBA punishment like Rose and Evans have been dealing with their Rookie seasons in the NBA... I'm not so sure he can just yet...
Now? Obviously that is ridiculous and I don't remember anyone saying that. I've never seen John Wall as Rose's equal but maybe he'll change my mind. The only thing Wall has on Rose is a take-charge attitude, which Rose is developing. But comparing overall talent and athleticism, I give the edge to Rose. When he decides to start dominating guys that cannot guard him each and every night, the NBA better watch out. His PG instincts are great, but he's so much more than that. Wall's best is coming but I don't expect him to surpass Rose on my list of best future PGs. Hayesfan, Wall is further along at this point than Rose was, but honestly, do you really think his upside is higher? Based on your posting history, I'm assuming you can lay the hype down and think clearly.
I still think Wall could take charge more. He seems to be too passive at times. Even with him almost getting a triple double tonight he didn't play one of his best games. Took some horrible shots at times but he made up for it.
I think that if the Cats were playing a true dribble drive like Rose and Tyreke did you would be able to see a lot more of what he's capable. There are moments where he's downright poetic in his movement. If Lebron is power, I liken John to grace. The guy just has a knack for moving his body smoothly and quickly. Because UK has very talented big guys, they have tabled the dribble drive and modified an offense around those guys. There is still a basis with a drive and kick, but it's not exactly the same. Joey Dorsey was the best big guy on Rose's Memphis team.. and do you even remember the name of the big guy inside playing with Tyreke? Cousins and Patterson are both much better than anyone those two guards had to play with inside. Because of that focus a lot of spoils are going to DeMarcus right now. I really think that he has more potential for growth in what he's capable of... he's a better passer, has as good body control, (the ever slandered) shows a higher BB IQ most of the time, and he's worked a lot on his mid range jump shot. Where he has room to improve.. all of those things. During part of the middle of this season he's slumped a bit.. maybe it's a bit of homesickness or stress from school.. who knows, he's a teenager... but like Shaud said.. he had a mediocre game tonight and still flirted with a triple double. Eventually, I may change my mind but as of right now, I still think he has room for more growth than Rose. Don't get me wrong I think they are both very good players, but I can see John being just a bit more successful than Derrick.
Wall and Cousins both look like future perennial all-stars to me. Sure, they need some more time to develop, but what they're doing as freshman on a stacked team, is pretty impressive. I guess with Cousins one would really have to study his athleticism a bit more, as he does rely on his brute force against typically smaller opponents a lot, but assuming he has even average NBA athleticism, he could really be a dominant low post player.
