the peaking too early part MAY be true, but a lot of our games have been BLOWOUTS. tmac had a good rest during his injury so he should just be into the "shape" he should be as we inch toward the playoffs. all of our guys are only around 36 minutes a game on average, which are not excessively high like 39-40mpg. adelman has really done a great job of keeping minutes low. as long as we stay healthy (esp. landry), we'll be in great shape. i'm still not optimistic about the team getting out of the first round (depending on who we're facing), but as long as the team tries hard, they'll be in EVERY game. then you just leave it up to tracy mcgrady and hopefully he can do his magic.
I agree with you on both counts. That first one is something that we can't really control. Injuries are something every team has to deal with. The second point, however, is something that can be debated. I would agree that "peaking too early" is something the Rockets could suffer from, but the fact that we have already played 32 games in this "must-win" atmosphere and come out of it 28-4 tells me that if they were going to burn out, it would have already happened. 19-0 is great, but to be honest, 28-4 might be even MORE impressive. I mean, you're talking about more than a third of your season with only 4 LOSSES.....that's insane. Any other year, if you go on a run like that, you're in first by a long shot....this year though, it's gotten us into a virtual tie for third, and within striking distance of first.
wow...where did you draw that conclusion from? he said we CAN beat SA or LA but he doesn't think we will.
Cut him some slack. I'm just guessing here, but I doubt they watch much NCAA basketball in China (if he is in fact in China). I doubt most people under the age of 40 in America know who Adolph Rupp is.
As a P.S. to my previous post... If you want to be inspired, in a negative way, as to the Rockets chances of winning a title, just remember the Phi-Slamma-Jamma heart-breaker to NC State in the NCAA final. On paper and throughout most of the game the Rockets shouldn't have, couldn't have lost that game. But we all know the shock and pain of what happened... WAY too much pain! It would be nice to be on the other side of that kind of drama this year.
That's what John Thompson said: Can they (the Rockets) beat them (the Spurs)? Yes. Will they (the Rockets) beat them (the Spurs)? I don't think so. Without Yao, there is too much for the Rockets to overcome teams with great interior defense. To beat any team from perimeter in a 7 games series is a difficult task to accomplish.
have you heard of bobby knight dean smith john wooten coach k guy v lewis john chaney jerry tarkanian
you guys are always giving me CRAP about my HISTORICAL threads!! This is proof that we all need history lessons and knowledge is NOT assumed it is learned!!
My bad fellas I made a mistake. And the reason for that mistake I was very sleepy and they didnt show the part where he asked can they beat SA or LA. The dude on NBA TV daily was like now lets send it to Thompson who think the Rockets can win the west. And thats why I thought he was talking about us when he said can they beat them yea, but I don't think so.
Thompson wasn't just a coach... he backed up Bill Russell on the Celtics for a few years and won two NBA championships.
I care more about what the team think about themself. A team with rocketed level of confidence can make imposibility possible.
