IMO, Brand and Iggy requires Philly to give us either a draft pick or a young asset such as Speights. Dalembert and Iggy requires Philly to give us either a draft pick or a young asset such as Speights. Dalembert and Brand requires Philly to give us their first rounder this year and a young asset like Thad Young.
Agreed. I've been a vocal proponent for trading for K-Mart but I would definitely prefer Iggy over him. K-Mart is the better scorer but Iggy is better in just about every other aspect of the game. Not only that, but a potential Iggy/Dalembert type return for McGrady addresses more than one weakness and also provides us with a $12M expiring contract to play with for next year.
Iggy+Dalembert for Tmac. I would do that deal. Dalembert is an expiring next season. And then Iggy gives the Rockets some length and creativity in the backcourt. He could fit in seamlessly into Adelman's system. My ideal scenario would be to somehow get someone like Joe Johnson. And Iggy is very similar. Not quite as good a shooter, but beggers can't be choosers. If Iggy is available, I think the Rockets would have to jump on that. Not sure they could get a much better offer.
I just came across this on the ESPN website: Would someone with Insider access please post the article here? Thanks.

If you were a general manager you would general manage to make your team suck. Iggy and 1 bad contract straight up for Mac is a steal. Ting Tingy Baby
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors Who doesn't want T-Mac? The Detroit Pistons, according to the Detroit Free Press, won't pursue Tracy McGrady because of what it will cost for a four month rental. McGrady will be a free agent next summer. Eddie Sefko writes in The Dallas Morning News: "Common sense would suggest that McGrady would be a difficult fit in Dallas. Never mind the problems in finding enough salaries that the Mavericks wouldn't mind losing and would add up to a matching figure with McGrady's whopping number. Equally difficult is finding a home for McGrady on the roster. The Mavericks love their tag team of Shawn Marion and Josh Howard on the wing. And their backcourt rotation of Jason Kidd, J.J. Barea and Jason Terry has been effective." A source close to the situation tells The Philadelphia Inquirer, "nothing is happening" between Houston and Philadelphia, although the Sixers have contacted the Rockets about center Samuel Dalembert. As of Wednesday morning, the Jazz were not believed to have made any inquiries about McGrady reports The Salt Lake Tribune.
Meh... everybody denies they are talking a trade right up until they actually make it, usually with some sort of weasel language "we didn't call about Player X" meaning, "but his team called us, and we are thinking about it" or "nothing is happening" meaning "but something may happen in a couple of weeks."
Very telling, we know that Philly has more than once inquired on Tracy for Sam, so now that they are reaching All Star period with no chances of making the playoffs, why not throw some incentive in there for us to take the deal. I'd highly doubt they'd give in and throw in Iggy but they have to be offering something more than just Dalembert. I just feel like Morey is stepping back and letting the phone ring, whoever and whatever is waiting on the other line is negotiable and potential. There's not much the 76ers can do but shed dead weight at this time and if it means giving up a valuable asset than that's something they should have to live with. Plus, even if it doesn't work out (playing wise) for Tracy don't you think the Philly fans would be somewhat excited at first to see what Tracy paired with AI can do? I'd think so.
First, for those who want Kapono included: we have a much better Kapono for a much more cost effective contract in Chase Budinger. Second, Brand crowds our PF situation without improving it significantly (and I loved the former Brand when he was a Brand name). Dalembert -- a true center -- fits our team needs much better (and I'm definitely not a fan of Dalmebert). His $12M contract to back up Yao next year would gall me, but I console myself that it would be a very nice expiring contract for Morey to use. Continuing on the Brand aspect for a moment, the only way we should even begin to consider his acquisition is if it comes with their unprotected #1 or Thadeus Young. Third, the only way we add a player not named Taylor, Dorsey or Cook is if they add something else of value -- like their best second round pick or swap of #1 picks.
See, these are EXACTLY the kinds of deals Morey will be looking for, teams that are looking to start over, and have a star player who is not leading them anywhere....and won't over the course of his career. DD
I'd take Dalembert over Brand, just because of his injury history and contract length. Dalembert would be a great backup for Yao. If we assume we lost Scola, this lineup would take us to the WCF for sure: Brooks/Ariza/Iggy/Landry/Yao Lowry/Battier/Bud/Hayes/Andersen/Dalembert So sick that lineup would be. Hate to lose scola, but it would be better in the long run...
