There's no way we could afford to take more than Iggy and Dalembert, Brand's on a max deal with 4 years left he would cripple us.
wow that would be sick. i can kind of see why philly would do that if they want to blow the team up. they are pretty much screwed with brand's contract and if they are truly sick of iggy then i can see why they want to dump his contract. they would save around 24.5 mil next year and would be close to being able to offer a max contract for the 2010 fa class. also, this would make completely sure that they totally suck and they would have a great pick. interesting trade possibility....
Iggys contract scares me. He is one of those player is is borderline High caliber all star, that is begining to be overpaid like a superstar.
One other thing is the dude's just about to turn 26. I don't think he's quite reached his prime yet cause I think he has room to get even better.
Another thought. This would be bad for retaining Scola/Lowry this year but for next year Dalembert would be also useful as a 12 mil expiring contract to acquire talent and would be a great backup center to Yao. If Iggy keeps playing the way he is along with Yao he would be worth his salary imo. Overall it's not all great but unless Morey can come up with a better use of T-Mac's expiring it is a very viable choice.
i can see where you are coming from since his numbers are elevated due to his minutes played and he is overpaid by around 15%. however, he is a rugged defender, extremely durable, and coming into the prime of his career. he would only be 29 when the player option of his contract comes around. but i can see the ups and downs of this trade.
This is the type of deal that I would imagine Morey is pushing for. Iggy is precisely the type of All-Star caliber talent that a team like Philly might be forced into dealing with the reason being: Iggy can't carry a team and Philly is a team full of misfits. Now, that's not to say that Iggy can't be second banana on a serious contender -- he can, and that would be the idea behind us trading for him. But he's not capable of carrying this Philly team in their present state. They're at least two years away from retooling and becoming a playoff caliber team again. Iggy is simply owed too much money to be part of the machine and not the engine. What I really like about Iggy is that he's like a slightly poor man's version of Joe Johnson. For those unfamiliar with the Hawks and how JJ does almost everything imaginable for that team -- JJ is the team's primary playmaker, he often defends the opponent's best player, he NEVER gets hurt (basically a walking advertisement for durability) and, oh yeah, he scores too. This team badly needs a second playmaker and a guy that is capable of breaking down a defense, getting shots for others and a guy that can take over games in spurts. Not only that, but adding another effective perimeter defender could never hurt. Bottom line: he doesn't get hurt, he's a dynamic offensive player and doesn't slack on the other end of the court. Basically, your ideal second banana. His arrival would undoubtedly force Adelman to put the clamps on Ariza and reduce his role (massive plus), as well. Overall, this basically amounts to a no-brainer from our end if you're trying to judge whether or not this makes us better. I would imagine if Philly called up Morey right now and offered Iggy/Dalembert for McGrady that there would be a press conference in the very near future.
Iggy to the Rockets for Tmac? I would welcome this trade any day. Just as long as we don't take Brand back with us also.
everything i've seen and read indicates iggy ain't a true finisher/takeover star like we need. while he's still good value for t-mac, i don't think he's what we need, not with that contract. it would just be another stopover. don't think we'd win a championship with him as the go to guy. having said that, don't really know where we need to go to get the guy we need.
MUCH more than he's really worth but not enough to get Morey to decline an offer like that. Besides, he expires after next year anyway and could potentially present another golden opportunity for us to plunder teams for talent again by dangling an expiring contract in their face.
Philly should include a sweetner in that sort of deal, because there is no way we absorb two of their bad contracts
I'd do TMac for Iggy and Dalembert, if nothing else than to watch the specticle of a washed up TMac and washed up Iverson on the same team. In front of Phily fan, it could get brutal. Great fodder for a reality show.
I would actually say that JJ is a poor man's franchise player, while Iggy is a rich man's role player. Iggy is best fit in a role where he can feed off a legit 1st option. JJ, however, is a legit 1st option.
