PER stats are overrated. Any list that has the Heat #1 is stupid. They CLEARLY havent been playing like a top team.

    Make it:

1 impressive win for the Heat, 2 bad losses.

And 0 impressive wins for the Lakers, 1 bad loss.

Hollinger's power rankings are all done via formula and calculated by computers. How can computers watch games?

And FYI stats don't tell the whole story but they certainly are more reliable than some random dudes sipping beer, "watching the game" and looking at LBJ and deciding he has no 3 pt shot, not realizing he's actually shooting at a respectable 43% from downtown.

The formula probably calculates SOS using a multiplier of sorts, which would mean if you only beat the crap out of 1 good team, SOS would be much less important, and if you lost to all of them, SOS wouldn't be a factor at all.

Isn't Bosh usually very high on PER

PER is absolutely useless, it does not take into account far to many factors that cannot be measured by statistics.

Even Hollinger would agree that PER is not supposed to be a perfect measurement for player's performance. But it definitely beats the traditional rebounds-points-assists simple production numbers.

Not really, not sure why you would think it is any better, in fact I would say it is even more meaningless

Bosh has low PER now. I bet if you asked people last season if Bosh was a good player they say yes.

All these stats are tools, and its up to the person to decide which tool fits him best at which specific situation. If a person used a hammer to cook his food and failed, is it the hammer's fault for being too limited? Or is it the person's fault for expecting too much out of a hammer? Exactly the same thing here.

Well if you understood what they meant... PER does not say how good you are PER is a PERFORMANCE rating.

Meaning.. how well they rebound and how efficiently they shoot when they are on the court.

Bosh is not doing either of those things well this year... hence PER suckage.

Don't piss on a stat because you don't understand it.

From what I've read, roslolian perfectly understands what's going on and rhino17 has no clue whatsoever.

These power rankings seem reasonable to me, although they are based on unstable numbers (small sample size) hence there will be some volatility. Come january, those rankings will become much more stable I guess.

Usually at the end of the year the formula is really close to the standings.
