The Houston / Melo trade is pretty far from possible without an extension. If Melo walked at the end of the season you would be stuck with - (guarenteed the next year)

    Lowry/Mo Williams/Ish
    Lee/T-Will
    Harrington
    Scola/Harrington/Chuck
    Chuck/Brad Miller

+whatever you might be able to get in a Melo sign and trade (most likley TPE, future picks)
+1 2011 First round pick (assuming this isnt in the trade)
+1 2011 2nd round pick (assuming this isnt in the trade)

    -Camby (contract expires)
    -Battier (contract expires)

That alone might be almost as bad as Cleveland this year especially if Adelman decides him time in Houston is over.

-Involving Martin in this deal would be the dealbreaker because if Melo does not resign you do not have a backup plan to stay relevant and win games the next year. Its ok to involve Martin in the trade IF Melo agrees to an extension beforehand but thats it.

This deal still screams desperation on Houstons part and could be the worst move in the History of the NBA if Melo does not resign.

That lineup would be historically bad, and not at all exciting to watch. But we would then be able to tank for 2012 draft prospect Quincy Miller! We would finally have the superstar we've always wanted, and moneyball would be vindicated!

    :(

maybe I'm missing something, but this trade doesn't even work in the Trade Machine. Maybe the Trade Machine doesn't account for the season being half way over and players are owed less now? I don't know.

LOL. I would be pissed with that trade if I were Kevin Martin. Just after having escaped from hell that is called the Kings, I am being shipped to a deeper hell called the Cavaliers.

This guy is an idiot. Morey put in a lot of time and effort collecting those assets. He acts like he is going to throw them away for a 2.5 month rental.

I wouldn't do that trade even if Carmelo agrees sign the extension.

Once Denver mentions Martin for a rental they can forget the trade. They should be kissing the Rockets feet for a restricted free agent in Brooks that fits their team so well. The Rockets could also give them young forwards and Shane Battier to do them a favor.

Denver thinks they will get Carmelo's trade value from two years ago two months before he bolts. We will see how desperate or how stupid they are come the 26th.

This guy will have be there.

I hope to God the tanking scenario is pure sarcasm.

Quincy who???... yeah, I wouldnt base any decision on a potential prospect 2 years later in the draft if their name isnt Lebron James, Yao Ming, or Tim Duncan.

Quincy Miller will most likely be a PF at the NBA level and is being compared to a young Danny Manning.... not really someone you gamble on tanking for.

Look at Cleveland this year and tell me that it has been a positive experience for their franchise.

To be Quaint - Just say no to the Melo Rental unless its for cheap and we get Nene or a quality big longterm in the trade as well.

The funny (in a sad way) thing is that he gets paid for this.

Typical, he's from New Jersey and he is a Knicks fans. Suggesting trades make no sense for anyone but the Knicks. Even the Knicks trade was r****ded. Why the hell do they need Nash and Felton?

I've always wondered if Hollinger has been living off of his "I created the PER system!" rep all this time and I think I may be right.

WAAAAYYYY too many of our assets given up w/o reassurance of an extension. If all these guys decide to stay, we may actually become better.

One thing is, would Mo come off the bench for Lowry and play the role that we wanted AB to play this season or would he sulk like AB did?

Also, if we get all these aging players, I believe that we can actually compete. Camby gives us that presence we've been missing for quite some time, Melo gives us the scorer, and Mo (maybe) gives us that spark off the bench that we haven't had.
