John Gibson Mocks ‘Weirdo’ Heath Ledger’s Death: ‘He Found Out How To Quit You’

Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”

Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.

Throughout the course of the show, Gibson continued to bring up Ledger’s death while discussing current events, jokingly claiming that current events may have caused him to commit suicide.

On yesterday’s drop in the stock market:

GIBSON: Maybe he had a serious position in the market.

TOM SULLIVAN: And possibly today, he looked at the window and said…

    GIBSON: “Oh my God.”

SULLIVAN: His name’s not Keith Bledger, right?

GIBSON: He was depressed about yesterday’s downturn in the world stock markets.

On the Democratic debate in South Carolina:

GIBSON: Apparently Heath Ledger was suicidal and his friends saw it coming. I think he watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant.

In reality, New York City Police spokesman Paul J. Browne told the New York Times that there was “no obvious indication of suicide.”

    You stay classy, John Gibson.

UPDATE: In 2006, when Brokeback Mountain was released, Gibson repeatedly made fun of the film, calling it “a gay agenda movie.”

I just can't believe some of the ignorant hateful things surrounding this unfortunate death.

John Gibson should be fired. I wish some advocacy groups would campaign to get rid of him.

Because he's a douche bag. They said he was constantly bashing Brokeback Mountain as a gay agenda movie, so it's no surprise. Still, this guy is supposed to be a journalist, he can have his negative opinion, but when he starts saying things like "his friends said he was suicidal" which is something nobody has said, he's outright lying to help defend his opinions.

He's a new age music composer who used to host Entertainment Tonight.

Interesting fact about Gibson: He wrote the theme song to NBA on NBC. I used to love that opening song.

Why would you ask this when it mentions his occupation in the first sentence of the article?

John Gibson's now a co-anchor of 20/20. His background is in consumer-advocacy reporting. Occasionally, he'll have special 1-hour programs on ABC about some topic relating to that -- medical care, automobile safety, etc.

...actually, that's what I really thought until a few weeks ago :(

...and yes, John Gibson's an idiot.

Then there's the Baptist church in KS that is saying they are going to protest Ledger's memorial service.

I have so many issues with this. Timing and method = horrible. If you want to protest something, fine. But do it when the movie is released and in theatres, not on the heels of the actor's death. Amazing.

I am right now reading a book called UnChristian. We are doing a book study in my small group from church. I can only imagine how this type of thig contributes to the image problem of the church and Christianity in general.

    Amazing!
