    I love RHCP.

Frusciante playing that riff on "Snow"

    Jesus H.

Its not that its that hard to do, its just that you have to play it 140 times

Props to the high OP. ;)

John is a beast. He's my favorite guitarist by far and the guy who inspired me to pick up and play. Other guys can get fancy with what they do, but how many make good music? Yngwie especially.

The cool thing though is that he's a pretty good guitarist as far as ability as well. It mostly comes out in live shows, though there are tons of tracks that he shines on. I think in time he will get more recognition. Guitarists seem to respect him more than casual fans.

It also can't all be about the virtuosos like SRV, Satriani or Yngwie. If that were the case guys like Santana, Hendrix and even Clapton shouldn't be near the top. Its more than just speed playing. Popularity is a funny influence on people's perception. Rockets fans should appreciate that. Just a couple of years ago Kurt Cobain was on a list of the top fifteen guitarist ever. WTF is that?

Either way it should be a combination of things that equate the greats and John should be right up there with them. The quality of the Peppers' music has a lot to do with him. Look at One Hot Minute. And no Navarro is not a better guitarist in any respect in my opinion.

Can't check out the vids in this thread at work, but will later. Thanks OP.

    My top four guitarists (favorite)

    Frusciante
    Paige
    Hendrix
    Morello

His inspiration in music is so wide spread one of the bands that inspired him during Stadium Arcadium was Wu Tang Clan. I personally feel that he is more creative than any guitarist playing today. Especially Dave Navaro, and mad props to the guy that showed love to Morello

Yeah thats another thing that makes his music great. The influences. I know Eddie Hazel from Parliament Funkadelic was one as well as Zappa and Hendrix. Its great to see them live when he covers these random artists. He did a doo wop song in the Slane Castle concert and disco era Diana Ross in another as well as the Bee Gees.

In his interviews you can tell the years of abuse took their toll, but he also talks about some pretty deep stuff like space and time and how they affect music. Pretty interesting.

Dude is awesome. Defintely one of the most underrated ever, but hopefully that changes with time.

As far as playing Snow, its pretty tough to do it at the speed he plays it at, especially for such a long time.

And....? I just did you a favor, then, by putting it back in. It should be the soundtrack to everyone's life.

I suggest Jim Carrey's impersonation from In Living Color.

    Classic.

I would have preferred that over every album after Mother's Milk...

I like Frusciante's playing, but there's only one Hillel. And the real RHCP died when he died.

john is a great guitarrist certainly one of the most underrated guitarists out there, hes shown great range i mean hes got the kind of jimi hendrix(not saying hes better because no one is better than hendrix) style on mothers milk , goes funky on blood sugar and gets mature from californication onwards. in my opinion he out of all rhcp guitarists is the one which shares the most chemistry thats why it works...... any way hope the RHCP get back toghether, nothing against his solo carrer but I really hope RHCP get back and release a new album and come here to brazil :D

anyway hillel also is great, the best thing of the RHCP is the fact that from 83 to today you get diffrent material and musical style so it doesnt get old.

Oh yeah. I love most of his solo stuff, though for the most part it doesn't add significantly to his points as a guitarist.

Ya people who haven't watched a lot of live concerts of Frusciante can't discount his ability because thats where you see his real talent, just watch the Slane Castle concert or Hyde Park videos.
