do you not think that tom ridge would tell kerry just a coupla things in a private intelligence briefing (for the presumptive democratic nominee, a man who could in fact be the next president), that he might not say on national TV? a perhaps could these things have been worth Eeyore's time, if he wanted to be truly serious about our national security and not just another democratic celebrity suckup.

basso, in all fairness, we obviously need a nickname for Ridge if we're using one for Kerry. How about Tom "Piglet" Ridge?

    Is Bush Tigger?

No, I really don't think he would tell him anything of interest that Kerry could do anything about to make you or I safer. I honestly don't think Ridge has a clue, nor anybody else, about what is going on. I think the DHS is a failure, and I don't think Ridge has said or done one noteworthy thing since it started, which is not entirely his fault, but true.

You still haven't answered the question as to what Kerry would do with this information once he got it.

Your beef appears to be that he is campaigning while on the job. Well, is GWB protecting Kutztown, Pennsylvania today from terrorism or not?

Considering that he is legally empowered to actually do something about this, unlike Kerry, I would expect him to be hard at work on this, right?

President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation.

John Forbes Kerry has ample time to attend concerts and play kissy face with Johnny Edwards all day long, yet he has no time for a terror briefing? Shouldn't this be a priority? Forbes Kerry's *excuse* for his unpreparedness last night on Larry King was simply unacceptable. The man proved himself to be a hypocrite last night. He complains and even insults the Bush Administration's courageous war on terror. Then when the ball is in his court to do his own work for the cause, he drops the ball. He failed. I'm glad he got busted on national tv for not caring enough about terror to read a simple report. If I were Karl Rove, I would give this as much airtime as the "I voted for it before I voted against it" blunder.

Of course the larger issue here is Forbes Kerry's wild and ridiculous ideas for how to protect America. He keeps emphasizing "repairing relationships" and "not going it alone". What this translates into is that Forbes Kerry is willing to put America's national security interest into the hands of the French and the Germans. Nevermind the fact that a broad-based coalition went into Iraq. Nevermind the fact that the liberals ignore the sacrifices that these coalition countries have made. Forbes Kerry is willing to sacrifice the security of our nation by handing the keys over to France and Germany. This is not keeping any of us safe. Bush has the guts to do the right thing, Forbes Kerry is still caught in the game of trying to appease all people all the time.

What America's military has been able to do in the War on Terror is nothing short of amazing. Shamefully, the liberals do nothing but complain about every aspect of this war. The king of liberals himself, Forbes Kerry, complains yet can not even make time in his schedule to read a terror briefing. It's gross. How can any of you think that this man can protect America?

Anyone want to bet that GWB has not been fully briefed by Condi Rice on what Tom Ridge briefed the Congress?

    _Jorge,

Not to "complain" or hate America or anything, but what have we done? There was a great jump in terrorist attacks last year, according to the revised State Department data. We have not focused on Al Qaeda and Osama (at least in tangible terms of spending or troop levels). Instead, we have focused most of our forces, including over 1,000 dead brave soldiers now, on a militarily toothless land that had no connection to 9/11. I find this all to be "short of amazing," if we use amazing in a positive context.

I myself am hoping there are many quiet victories against Al Qaeda that the public cannot yet know of. But it's just a hope. What I see on paper ain't pretty.

Anyway, back to the topic. How many not-in-office candidates meet with the administration of the incumbent months before an election? Is this typical? Did Walker Bush meet with Clinton's terrorism chief before the 2000 election? Any Clinton officials?

RED HERRING (or should I say JORRGING)

What has our military done? WHAT HAVE THEY DONE?!?! Are you even remotely serious? Please tell me you are not. If you are, then I fear that your brain has been completed infested by liberal propaganda. Here's what our courageous troops have done:

    1) Routed the Taliban and removed them from power.
    2) Removed terror camps from Afghanistan and put al Queda on the run
    3) Toppled arguably the most dangerous dictator in the Middle East, a man responsible for the deaths of thousands and instability in the region
    4) Put the framwork in place for a free, democratic Iraq
    5) Suffered *very* few deaths for a campaign of this size. If you liberals think that 1,000 deaths is a lot, then you just don't have a good knowledge of military history. I grieve for each soldier lost, but I am also capable of recognizing that this is a very low number of deaths for such a long campaign in such hostile territory.
    6) Greatly increased America's capacity to defend against terror, and has prevented any al Queda terror attack from happening on American soil since 9-11.

That's what they've done. I am very proud of them. I just wish some of you liberals were. You liberals can protest whatever you'd like, but just do not downplay or minimize the efforts of our TROOPS. The troops who risk their lives to protect YOU and the other liberals.

John Forbes Kerry's refusal to make time to read a terror briefing is a slap in the face to our troops.

We should get multiple angles of that same shot, and resize some to make them look slightly different and then accuse Bush of playing kissy face at the worst time. Thank Matt Drudge for his lessons of journalistic ethics and integrity.

and in keeping w/ the dual memes of this thread, bush's vacation song:

"Christopher Robin and I walked along
Under branches lit up by the moon
Posing our questions to Owl and Eeyore
As our days disappeared all too soon
But I've wandered much further today than I should
And I can't seem to find my way back to the Wood

So help me if you can
    I've got to get back
To the House at Pooh Corner by one
    You'd be surprised
There's so much to be done
Count all the bees in the hive
Chase all the clouds from the sky
Back to the days of Christopher Robin and Pooh"

This is something that could effect my vote.

He SHOULD be making time for something as important as this.

Well, basso, now you've done it: one of the best finds in the history of the BBS.

We should rename this forum: The House at Poo Corner. :D
