This is odd. It looks like a blurry picture of a guy who looks like Edwards and is dressed up to look like a photo of Edwards.

    Then there's this...

So, they are using hotel publicity photos off the hotel's web site to make the case for damning proof?

I'm no lawyer, but if this were me and this is all there is, I'd hire someone like John Edwards to go after these guys.

If this is true, he'd be wise to come out and cop to it during the Olympics. Hell, the media has buried this story for weeks now. Who's to say they won't continue to ignore it even after he confesses to the affair and love child? Especially with the games going on in China.

The stupidest thing he can do is keep quiet and let this disrupt the Dem convention at the end of the month. Things could get ugly enough with Hillary making noise about the superdelegates again.

I'd be more concerned about what we don't yet know about McCain. The staunch republicans are the ones who always seem to have gay lovers and whatnot. Perhaps McCain has been meeting with male prostitutes in random bathroom stalls? Hmmmmmm...

So, the clear picture on the left is months before the blurry picture on the right?

    Damning evidence imo.

Newsflash: John Edwards is a lawyer. Yet he still sits on the sidelines and doesn't defend himself against these allegations? Strange. When given the chance to refute these allegations last week, he called the Enquirer, "Tabloid Trash". He did not deny the allegations. Why?

It's up to John Edwards to put an end to this ASAP. If he can't then he needs to come clean with what he did.

I just love this republican tact of throwing accusations out there and then demanding the accused defend themselves and if they don’t then the accusations must be true.

I'm not so disturbed about a love child, but why was a two-time presidential primary candidate wearing the same, sweaty, blue shirt for months?

So now the National Enquirer is a Republican tool? This is out there; nobody threw it there. "We" are just commenting/fantasizing...

Right. Because no one ever does that on the left. I mean, it's not like a book came out this week that accused the Bush Administration of demanding the CIA forge a link between Iraq and 9/11.

Suskind has said that all quotes and interviews are on record so I don't see how this is relevant.

I think he needs to address it , it has risen beyond the level of negligible static garbage. His denial sounded like an admission to me, and when you run for president, both fair and unfair scrutiny come with the territory.

Unless your name is William Jefferson Clinton, and you are a Sex Mosheen, you can not run around pronging and/or knocking up campaign workers if you are married to someone with cancer and you are seeking a place at the top of your party's ladder.

If he did not do it, it should be an easy denial, and at this point, it is not beneath him to at least address it. "You know, it pains me to have to address a trashy tabloid falsehood, but I need to say, this story is not true. I do not have a child with this woman, I did not have sexual contact with her, this is silly and it's patently false, and I will probably pursue legal action against the Enquirer. It's hurtful to my family and my supporters, and those who planted the story should be ashamed of the pain they've caused. It's outrageous and painful, even for a public figure. I will hold people accountable for tarnishing my reputation and hurting my family and me. Thank you and drive safely."

    And its over.

Unless it is true, at which point you say things like "I love my wife" or "I don't comment on tabloid trash" even though you are commenting on tabloid trash....

I think its true, because a) the Enquirer is not, actually, the Weekly World News. Is it trash? You bet. Is it often correct? Actually, yes. b) Dude is acting guilty as hell.

I hope I am wrong, because it is totally irrelevant to the issues at hand in this election and I don't want to see a democrat giving the dittoheads of the world any more wanking material - I prefer when they just make stuff up.

I wish nobody cared. I dont think that ethically, he has an obligation to speak on it. But politically, he really does. And my gut instinct says he is sunk.

These are exactly my thoughts about this.
