http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/212803/Source_Calipari_Wants_Return_To_NBA Kentucky coach John Calipari recently left the distinct impression that, although he is recruiting and conducting business as usual, he "wants back in" the NBA, a source told the Daily News. Calipari's stock has risen in recent seasons among more than a few GMs, and he's got close ties to William Wesley, the Creative Artists Agency powerbroker who has an in with several teams. Les does seem to want the popular-named guys. This would seem like a more viable option than taking on Brad Stevens.
As long as the team hiring him doesn't give him the Gm title as well imo he should be fine this time around. But like the other poster said, i would rather have Stevens. Calipari seems like a hot head and have questionable character and he wouldn't get away with screaming at his players during the game.
Sounds like he's got to get his greasy @ss out of Lexington before the sanctions start rolling in. I agree that he's done a good coaching job this year, but let's be honest. That team remains one filled with lottery picks in Knight, Jones, and Lamb (and Kanter!). What he did has no comparison to what Shaka Smart or Brad Stevens did. As for this team, whoever fires Rick Adelman will be stupid for doing so, whether it's Les or Morey or both.
Forget it. Cal just doesn't have the strategic mind to be a good NBA coach. His place is in the college game where he can recruit superior talent to his competition. Put Cal in the NBA where he doesn't have a big talent advantage and he will fail.
LOL. WTF does that have to do with anything at all? It's not like Calipari doesn't have a track record that speaks for itself, and who would trust an advertising agency exec about a coaching job?
I like how everyone is saying no to Calipari because they already KNOW that he will fail in the NBA as a head coach. I like how people know this and they have no experience whatsoever in recruiting, scouting, or coaching.
Okay A: Cal has a contract that would cost mucho dinero to get out of B: He has been friends with World Wide Wes for like fifteen years - so this is not news C: this is a "real GM" exclusive... not exactly the best reputation for breaking stories, now is it. If Cal takes an NBA job, good for him, UK was fine before him and will be fine after him, but its HIGHLY unlikely to happen until he gets his first Championship in college.
