Dorsey might be better off initially concentrating on one or two of his strengths and then building from there. He may want to start with what he was doing right when he was drafted, e.g. rebounding and defense, preferrably, post defense. If he could devote most of his time in the summer honing these skills then he should be could become a very important rotation player for the Rockets. If Howard could get by with just dunking ability on offense but being a beast in rebounding and defense, then Dorsey might want to emulate that for now. If he has that smooth and dependable hook shot in his arsenal so much the better. But I believe he is better off focusing and greatly improving the skills he already has, at least for this offseason.
Wants to work out with Scola instead of Yao That has got to be a 1st. I noticed at the end he brought up Yao but Scola instead of Yao. Wow. If he works out with Hayes and is halfway close to what Hayes is now then Chuck better watch out. Joey was sort of brought here to replace Hayes.
Scola is closer to his size. There's no use in trying to emulate someone 9 inches taller than you. Dorsey does not have a height advantage on guys. I wonder how Hayes feels about teaching a guy that could take his job.... it's like teaching someone so they get good enough to replace you. If Dorsey was the best center in the NCAA for two years, why was he a second round draft pick? Guys like Noah went very high in the draft.
best defensive center. and he was a 4 year college player so he was older than most of the guys in that draft class. anyway, different teams value different things. why was ben wallace undrafted? why were maxiell and millsap second rounders? why was shelden williams a top 5 pick? depends who is picking, what they need, what fits their team . . . if i had to guess why he went where he went, its because the rockets need a mobile big that can guard the pnr, they need a swing 4/5 player in general, they need a big that can run in the uptempo game while still being able to block shots and rebound at a high rate, and they didnt need him immediately so they could afford to stash him for a year to get him ready to contribute. that all probably makes him worth a second round pick by the rockets. on the other hand, he's older, still raw, no offensive game, still somewhat immature, and lacking in proper fundamentals. you balance the two, and i think an early second round pick is alright. maybe slightly overpaying draft position wise, but who knows how long he lasts if the rockets dont take him. plus, keep in mind, that with all of morey's trading around in that draft, joey was essentially a free pick.
I think someone figured we needed a strong quick footed tenacious defender to compliment Yao. So we keep interviewing for that position.
Ben Wallace is a 6.9 and was a good center and McDysee does a good job. But yes we need a taller player but they are hard to find. An guy like Didier Ilunga-Mbenga or Kwame Brown will be good for the right price. The problem is health, we can live with Yao playing 33 minutes and the rest of the minutes between Dorsey and Scola when going small. The problem is Yao hasn't been able to say healthy enough and our size have been expose. And Ideal player is Rashee, old butplaying limited minutes will be an effective player. He Can play center and PF to play along Yao and Scola spreading the floor on offense and helping with his size and rebounding on defense. But he will be too expensive or will want to many minutes.
H E A R T thats what dorsey has 1. he said he cried after the game 7 loss cause he couldn't be there to contribute 2. said his experience from college is to leave everything out ther, give it your all every game.
obviously you haven't been reading the articles on Joey Dorsey. You don't catch balls with your head, you catch them with your hands outstretched. Why does someone like Millsap or Maxiell get rebounds like crazy despite being undersized, while guys like Rafael Araujo who are almost 7 ft are out of the league? The answer is because dudes like Araujo have tyranossaur arms, while guys like Maxiell have arms as long as Dhalsim's. Dorsey is not undersized, if you look at his standing reach its as big as some of the other 7 footers in the league. Not only that his low center of gravity will alow him to defend guys much, much bigger than he is (think Perkins on Yao Ming). If he could learn to catch and finish properly (dunks instead of Haye's layups) we'd be all set at the position.K? Thanks.
no, the rockets drafted him with the extra pick they had from the Batum deal. the rockets wanted Dorsey, he wasn't a throw in.
why are we keeping both hayes and dorsey? They're like carbon copy of one another except hayes' more seasoned.... i just think it's a waste of roster spot to have both of them on the team, rather exchange one to get a 7 footer.
