He is always going to be a role player. It's too early to say whether he will have a future in the NBA or not.

It's too early to say for sure but not to doubt it's likelihood. Long term, he'll be lucky to be a scrub and make a 15-man roster.

About time, I actually figured he would be there a lot sooner.

If he can rebound, defend and occasionally finish around the basket,he can have a role. If he can't he will be out of the league. I don't expect anything from him this season. He is extremely foul prone, can't make any free throws, and needs a lot of time to learn the system it seems. Otherwise management wouldn't have sent him to the D-League. Planter fasciitis has slowed him down too. The only thing that gives me some hope is that he appears to be an aggressive player.

I said this before the season: He's a 25 year-old with the brain and maturity of a 16 year-old, he's not very bright and has very little upside. Why Morey thought Dorsey would have an impact as a rookie escapes me.

saleem, aggression is one thing he has going for him. A big mouth is another.

I admit,I haven't seen too much of him but I also have had my doubts about his basketball IQ after seeing him getting ejected against the Wizards in the preseason.I hope he will be able to learn to play the right way because he seems to be a hard worker.

I don't understand why you think he can't have an impact. The problem isn't him, it's that we have Hayes, Scola and Landry ahead of him. I'm not expecting big things from Joey, but I think writing him off so soon is silly.

Chuck Hayes has turned into a good role player, and he was terrible coming out. I'm glad he's going to the D-League though, now we'll have a better shot at seeing what he has to offer.

One thing to keep in mind is the Rockets development coach. Name escapes me ATM.. but Landry went from a summer league dud to a vital piece of our rotation by working with him. Let's just give Joey some time.

I was interested to see that Shawn Respert is going there as well. I though he was on the team largely to keep Ron in line.

The basketball IQ and maturity he showed his last year at Memphis wasn't very good either.

LongTimeFan, Joey Dorsey and Chuck Hayes have nothing in common at all besides their age. Two completely different guys. Just listen to Chuck's interviews as compared to when Joey "Ray Lewis" Dorsey opens his mouth. Same with Landry, who's a high-character, smart guy that demonstrated tangible talent in college. His summer league problems were because he wasn't fully recovered from his knee injury. Not to knock Rockets player development, but Landry did pretty well over this summer without them. I'm not writing Dorsey off as much as being realistic about his prospects. Sending him to D-league is a good idea.

The Rockets can confidently leave Dorsey in the DL because they are about to get another big man for insurance

I think somthing big is about to happen. This is our year Morey is going to make sure of it. How we are right now, we cant beat the Lakers or Boston in a 7 game series so he is making some changes.

Dorsey as backup center in the NBA is kinda reaching. Sure its nice to have skills rather than size but its hard to overcompensate a 7 inch reach disadvantage. He can be a hustle type banger at the 4 for somebody, dont need much brains to do that. Mark Madsen and Brian Scalabrine lowered the standard for NBA vet

I'm interested to see how Dorsey will do there... it should keep him fresh if Rox bring him back. Hopefully the NBDL can help to develop his game like it did with Rafer, Hayes, Flash Brooks, and Wafer.
