i hate to sounds stupid but can somone give me a measurement for yao? reach, wingspand ect. because on www.hoopshype.com said that he has short arms for his size??? i kinda find that alittle funny. "Incredible size and talent... Already a dominant player in the NBA... Deadly turnaround jumper... Good range... Good handle of the ball for his size... Passes the ball well when double-teamed... Excellent mobility for his size... Very quick feet... Strong legs... A block waiting to happen... Decent rebounder... Could be more aggressive... Short arms for his size... Limited stamina."

Yao's wingspan is around 7-5, which is the same as his height if you believe he is 7-5 and not 7-6. In the NBA a player having arms the same length as they are tall is considered short because the overwhelming majority of nba players have wingspans greater than their height.

Your first post ever and you spelled Joey wrong. I'd just go ahead and quit if I were you.

    1. Those are without shoes, Derrick Rose without shows is 6-1.
    2. did you just say he can extend his range to the 3? Are you kidding me? This guy can barely shoot a free throw standing straight. Hes going to be in the post forever so drop any thoughts of him even taking a jump shot unless the shot clock is running out or something

Off the top of my head, Yao's wingspan was 7'2" or 7'4" or something. It's a little shorter than his height if I recall correctly.

Someone posted his standing reach in the earlier pages. 9'8"

    No measurements on Mutombo? :(

Pre-draft tests for athleticism translate into practical athleticism in the NBA.

    Yours Truly,
Luther Head (one of the most athletic players in the 2005 draft)

Deke and Pau Gasol always make me think like that. They hardly need to jump.

Ben Wallace is 6'7" without shoes and weighs 245. Dorsey is less than an inch shorter and 20 pounds bigger and already has more offensive game than Wallace. I expect Dorsey to get bigger and increase his vertical with the Rockets. Remember Carl Landry added 4" to his verticle leap this season. He gave all the credit to Houston's strength coach and the the weight training he has been making him do since he became a Rocket.

So look for Dorsey to get even badder. I look forward to Dorsey taking out David West of the hornets just 1 time. The hornets try to intimidate teams with their badboy play and West is the current badass of the team. He b**** slapped Nowitzki and made him cry. I would love to see him try that on Dorsey. Dorsey makes West look like a boy.

I'm not going to really argue a point, but he is undersized big time. I mean Landry is smallish, chuck and scola are all average or below avg for their position. I do like the long arms, but when a guy like Garnett is long and atheletic as well as tall, those guys can't defend him. His verticle or explosion is good enough, but the lack of size can't be hidden. If he works hard enough, he can contribute. At least he is long and kinda atheletic instead of hayes like.

Okay so then the 25 million dollar question is who should or could we get to guard KG?

I'm not worried about the guy's height--as others have pointed out, we've played with PFs in the past that didn't have great height. Not that I'm comparing the two abililty-wise, but any fan whose team once had Charles Barkley should know that standing height is not the primary way to measure a PF's effectiveness. If he comes out and brings it and plays tough, people will not WANT to go to the basket on him, 6'6" or not.

I don't expect a ton from Dorsey this year--but if he can come in and play a few minutes a game, grab a few boards and maybe block a shot, I'm willing to give Morey the benefit of the doubt here.

Goodness knows that he's an upgrade in the balls department--I love the Rockets, but we have had some pu$$y play in the blocks for a few years, and it'd be nice to get a bruiser sometime. Overall, not bad for a free pick that didn't cost us anything. I'm intrigued to see how he fares.

What goes against Dorsey is his is age like Landry and Scola. (He'll turn 25 during the season) Thats what made Landry's increase in vertical, that as an athlete already in shape past his growing years he added so much to his vertical. Maybe it can be done for anybody who tries but you'd think itd happen more often in basketball

Lovemachine2000 said Dorsey shouldnt be considered an athlete. Dorsey might be a good athlete and not an upper-echolon athlete in truth. BUT, he's certainly not a Danny Fortson. Its his tenacity and attitude that puts his skills to good work. Thats the Knock-'em-on-their-ass ingredient this Rockets team could definitely use.

But, he needs to make the team

Vertical reach not height is what matters in basketball. You grab rebounds with your hands, not your head. People shoot over your out-stretched hands, not over your head.
