    That because he was skinny.

PPL said Joy Dorsey is not athletic because he got only 33 vertical but they forgot he weight a lot, put the same body in Rudy Gay legs and he won't jump 20 inches .

Just look at Hayes how was in a dunk contest, now he have a bigger body to be able to guard nba players and he is not the same athletic.

Yao can jump if he push it a little bit

this last part made me laugh :D

    back to being mature:

standing reach, standing jump, and strength have more to do with rebounding that people give credit.

What the bleep are you talking about?

Better yet, who the bleep are you talking about?

    It certainly isn't Joey Dorsey.

From a physical standpoint, a lot of his measurements are very similar to Beasley's. Beasley is taller but their standing reach is equal, and they have similar ups and both benched the bar (I think it's 180, I might be wrong) 19 times. I forget what else they had in common; you guys are smart you go search it up off Draftexpress. :p

He's short but not 'undersized'. He's overweighted for 6'6".

If Dorsey flops, it won't be because of his size. His true size, 8'11", is adequate for a PF.

    [rquoter]http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Gauging-Stock-after-the-Chicago-Measurements-1004/
Heights are among the most ballyhooed of NBA statistics and often the most misleading. Take Tim Duncan, who was elevated to 7’ feet by the Spurs to promote the fabled “twin towers” theme (after David Robinson retired, Tim miraculously shrunk an inch and is now listed at 6’11). In the new millennium, we’ve had the liberty of getting pinpoint measurements every June from the Chicago Pre-Draft Camp, but even these can be misread. In short, height is almost meaningless- standing reach and wingspan are far more important when calculating a prospect’s “true size”.

Elton Brand plays as big as any player in the league despite being substantially undersized- perhaps as short as 6’6 according to some. Yet his insane length practically makes him a 7 footer on the floor, and thanks to his smaller stature, he has coordination and quickness that only a select few of the really tall guys in the league possess. Likewise, bigger guys with T-Rex arms (think Rafael Araujo) frequently end up struggling in the NBA. Not to say that length is the entire story- athletic ability, skill, and mentality can more than make up for it- but you rarely find a truly great big man in the NBA with below average reach for his position.

If a guy's 6 feet even but has long Plastic Man arms that can reach the top of the backboard, whats height really matter?

Andre Iguodala only measured a 32" vertical. Some guys can maximize their jump everytime.

Below this year's overall average? So what?!? You'd expect someone who plays the 4 or 5 to have a lower vertical than the other positions, and even moreso for someone as bulky as Dorsey is. If his vertical is slightly below this year's average for ALL players, that means he's very athletic for a player his size.

    It's official.

Lovemachine is either clueless, or high. Or maybe both. :p

That said, does anyone know Deke's standing reach? I swear it's gotta be right up there among the longest in the league. In fact, he may well have the longest arms. Everytime I watch him dunk, it seems like he barely gets off the ground too. And he's what? 7'2"? Compared to Yao's 7'6".

At this moment, I am not too concerned about size. I'll have to see him play to know more about whether size affects his play or not especially when he faces players like Boozer, Bynum and Howard (assuming he plays some backup C).

Please tell me I did not read about someone saying Dorsey has a good shot and could extend his range to the 3 pt line. PLEASE TELL ME I DID NOT READ THAT!

    You didn't read that.

Oh wait - ok, you did!

Lovemachine2000 with one of the worst posts in a while... the basic thesis of the thread is that standing reach is important, and height isn't. So LM2000 comes along and says 'well he's short'

    uhh -huuuuh

You don't have a clue my man.
Dorsey is a horrible free throw shooter , no way he is a realible mid range shooter much less from 3.

And all of those athletic measurments are useless , Kevin Love measured as a better athlete than Dorsey.
Watch the 2 on the basketball for 2 minutes and you will see that is absurd.
