I believe you are thinking of Ken Mauer

The NBA has a serious problem when the fans all know at least a half dozen if not a full dozen refs by name/face, and how they officiate differently. It's damning - the officials should be interchangeable. We all know it's not the case.

Missed calls in basketball I could live with. Refs that interject their own "style" into the officiating is indefensible.

It's interesting what Morey said on the radio this morning about Crawford. He said he likes for away games. Wonder what that means? Crawford is a weak ref IMO, seems like a racuous crowd would influence him. Unless Morey means that Crawford likes pissing people off.

She reffed the first round. She hasn't done a 2nd round game yet.

As for Joey, there's going to be a crap load of fouls called tonight and a ton of free throws. In game 1, we shot more free throws than the lakers because we were much more aggressive in taking the ball inside. That's not going to matter tonight. I guarantee you that LA will get to the line a bunch without us committing shooting fouls. In the Portland game Crawford reffed, we missed 10 free throws. That's going to be key tonight. LA is going to the line but so are we. If we can hit our free throws, then we still have an excellent chance of winning tonight.

Actually Darell Garretson tried to do that when he was head of refs and it was terrible it was like faceless machines out there. It didn't make the calls any better and the refs were stand offish and wouldn't listen to the players and inconsistent on calls... it's gotten better now where you can talk to them, remember when you couldn't even be near them!

Crawford or no, I like our chances if we keep a stiff upper lip and play our game no matter what. The pressure is on them, and if they think they're going to get tough and play hard defense now, Crawford is the wrong one to start that on. That said, Yao needs to be careful tonight, none of these "leaning tower of Yao" picks he's been setting lately.

Play clean defense, careful on the touches, but aggressive offense, and I think we pull this out and send the Lakeshow into Panic (excuse) mode.

Isn't Crawford the ref that gave Tim Duncan the rediculous technicals last season while Duncan sat on the bench?

I have little doubt that Joey will let his presence be known early on. And I think it's a good chance it will favor the Lakers. But what I hope is that Adelman and his staff are cynical enough to take this into consideration and have a gameplan ready to combat the horrible officiating. I don't know exactly what they can do, but I hope they have some ideas.

I am very sure about that, he called out Timothy during a game and wanted to fight him.

Agreed, we should just trade refs with FIBA, they won't know what hit them.

Isn't it terrible that you actually have to gameplan for changes in officiating?

I predict Joey Crawford calling two technical fouls early on Dikembe Mutombo for refusing to remove his crutches.

Kobe will shoot 15 FTs tomorrow.

    Exactly! Thanks
His hair is not as bright though...but that tight shirt and pant remains,
Commentators in China once called him
    "The muscle ref."

Those guys have their own pressures, though...
I remember Dan Crawford with that haircut, like a Will Smith with mustache, but right now he looks old and tired...

For all of you conspiracy theorists, shouldn't the NBA be pushing for a Houston-Cleveland matchup to exploit the worldwide popularity of Yao? Wouldn't Yao vs. James be a more universally watched series?
