Definition of cult is really bullshit when you read it. Cult is a term, in most contexts pejorative, for a(n initially) relatively small group which is typically led by a charismatic and self-appointed leader, who tightly controls its members, requiring unwavering devotion to a set of beliefs and practices which are considered deviant (outside the norms of society) Key word being ‘small’. I can see some church powers like the Catholic Church flexing back in the day to make sure all dictionaries included that word in the definition of cult. Also note ‘outside the norms of society’. Who tracks this ****? I mean, what if there was a cult that practiced maiming all male babies but then they got ‘big enough’ to be mainstream? Due to the definition of cult, it’s now just a religion, nothing more to see here.
Horrible to hear and glad the shooting was stopped before it could get much worse. I’m not sure what this says about the state of the country when there is a shooter at a mega church and it doesn’t even make national news.
No one was killed except the shooter, so can we joke about it? I think this goes to show that our country is in a crisis when a mass shooter can't even afford child care.
