I agree with you up to a certain point. Look, you are right on, mar1juana isn't the drug we teach our kids to think it is. BUT! it is still illegal. My beef isn't that he did a drug, my beef is that it's illegal. Look, we can squable on whether or not it should be legal, that's fine, but when we start breaking laws because we don't agree with them, that's anarchy. Rules are set in place, not all of them just, and not all of them have fitting consequences either. The nature of it is, it's still a rule. Phelps broke a rule. Right/Wrong/Good/Bad is not my argument here, and anyone who argues it is an idiot. Look, I would look on Phelps the same way if he got a DUI or was found to have taken Steroids. In the end, he broke a rule. I think the people who are outraged here are more outraged because they think pot isn't as bad as the right wing wants you to believe, but that doesn't make what Phelps did less wrong.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but to play the other side... would you feel the same if Kellogg broke it off with him because he jay walked?
Maybe the pro-mar1juana people think that's how benign it is.

Yeah, I'm not really defending the Phelps situation on this one. Fact is, it is illegal and you can't really do anything about it. I just wanted to go on a little mar1juana rant.

lol that could work, but not much would get done if that happened. but I guess sitting around and laughing is always better than war. ;)

I agree with Joe. If the Stoner Dollar could be harnessed, what a mighty engine it would be for the economy.

Also, what's with all the humorless, puritanical people around here?

Has Phelps ever directly stated that he wants himself to be an American Hero, or is it just the media that is trying to portray him as such? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know if he has made those types of comments. Perhaps he doesn't see himself as a hero, and rather a 23-year old kid who can swim very well? And if he doesn't see himself as a hero, maybe he just wants to let loose and have some of the fun that he missed out on while spending 12 hours a day in a pool the past few years.

Then he's ignorant to think he's getting paid millions just because he can swim very well. It has to translate into something else for people to want to pay him and use him in their commercials. He's supposed to represent all that's good and wholesome and awesome about America.

I for one hope he was representing some good, wholesome and awesome American hydro in that water pipe.

Arguments on both sides of this are silly.

Pot is illegal. If you feel the need to smoke it, especially if you're a celebrity, be discreet or accept possible consequences.

If someone had videotaped Phelps stumbling out of a club schnockered out of his head, same thing would have happened.

    Really? Who?

ya this thread has been very eye opening. It's scary to read how many people still believe this ridiculous dogma regarding mar1juana. The legalization and taxation of mar1juana coupled with the release of non-violent drug offenders prosecuted under these ridiculous laws would produce a large amount of money for our government while simultaneously leaving law enforcement to focus on the real problems in our society.

Heard Joe Rogan on the radio a few times. Just moping on and on about mar1juana use how its unrightfully classified, the unfair negative image of its users, how its NOT just a bunch of lazy people & how he knows high level professionals & graduates all over who smoke it regularly & its never affected their career, etc etc..... He actually was really mad (about this, and really everything in life) about mar1juana's standing, little to no humor explaining his pot platform
