I don't think anyone doesn't know he's been terrible this season, but I think everyone including the Nets know he just can't give a F about this season. He's an old player making $25m in an organization which has failed miserably to live up to the promises they made to him through sheer incompetence. Our current starter - who is a 3 & D guy - is shooting 38% from the field, 33% from 3 and playing average defense on a team that went to the WCF last season, with everything to play for this season. If Johnson were to join a contender, he would be a good piece IMO, similar or probably better than Josh Smith was last season. Unfortunately, we're not contenders right now. I wish we would trade Brewer, Jones and a pick for Thaddeus Young, open up minutes for Johnson to come be our starting or backup SF when he gets bought out.
Joe Johnson will be a different player on a contender. I would have no qualms about trading for him if no better deals were on the table and I could move out Brewer/Ariza/Beverley contracts. I'd gladly trade: Ariza, Brewer, Beverley, Jones, McDaniels, Lawson for Joe Johnson, Markel Brown, Thomas Robinson, Tony Snell, Ricky Rubio in a massive 4-team deal with Brooklyn, Chicago, and Minnesota. That would leave us 2 roster spaces. We could sign Putnam and then have one more roster space to add a 15th player close to the end of the season that could be playoff eligible and a difference-maker.
A must-have. We need scorers in the playoffs, the more we have, the bigger the chance we go further. 2016 version of Josh Smith addition.
Or Harden plays point. Won't work against small pg's but we could go big or small with harden Ariza and Johnson
If JJ is going to sign the minimum, then he's going to a clear contender and won't mind coming off the bench. The most plausible destination is Spurs. He would be Michael Finley 2.0. He's provides the depth they need to keep up with GSW. Other destinations: OKC - contender who is slightly behind the pack. He would be a difference maker. CLE - wanted him in the off season. Would actually be their starter rather than a role player, which eh pay prefer assuming he believes he can win a title with them. For sure it's his easy ticket to the Finals at the very least. CHI - They have been in constant need of pure offense. They don't care about acquiring defensive players.
In case you haven't watched, Joe is absolutely a SF at this stage, and that is it. He is one of the better defenders on Lebron that I have seen. He is a large man.
The Spurs ? Unlikely, he will want a bigger role than what the Spurs could have provided for him -unless there is some major injury among the Spurs main wing players, but then the chance of beating GSW becomes even slimmer that it will render his acquisition rather pointless. This team really emphasizes a predetermined role & chemistry, making a half season acquisition of a player in his stature -no matter how diminished- would be too much of a distraction. Among the contenders in the west, i think the Clippers would love to have him, and the Thunder starts Andre Roberson at SG spot with Waiters behind him, Iso Joe would be a decent upgrade out of buyout market.
JR, please remind us. I think we have space under the hard cap for one, and only one, minimum contract midseason pickup (barring trades).

Just say no to adding any vet that doesn't improve our effort/leadership/defense. We do not have a strong enough locker room to accommodate any extra knuckleheads.
