I've learned that some companies don't post job openings outside of their company website.

What are the most efficient ways to look at companies in your area aside from driving around and jotting the names down (especially when you're not good with directions and dont know if youve been in the same area twice)?

I was thinking Google maps and zooming in really close and hopefully it picks up what company is there, but i i tried it and the interface isnt that friendly.

    Any tips?

    Thanks

I did that once and found a job within two miles of my house. It works.

It's tough because the type of fields I can work in cant be narrowed down to one field. I guess i could try multiple searches though

Guy loses his job and asks for help and we get people try to make jokes.

This site searches the career websites for companies directly:
    www.linkup.com.

oh dam, didn't realize op lost his job. thought was only shopping around.

my bad @Outlier breh. linkedin actually helped, brush it up and make it look pretty and in many instances, companies (or at least head hunters) will contact you. i helped a cousin set up his linkedin and he immediately got calls (albeit he is pretty impressive). it also tells you of good job openings in town, so kinda all encompassing.

What types of jobs? These can influence the search method. I know you mentioned your skill set is varied, but can you narrow it down a little bit?

When I was in a similar situation, the method I used was the opposite of efficient. I just drove all around the vicinity and had my gf write down company names as I read them out.

So I don't have any good advice. IMO, job hunting is mostly luck and investing lots of hours doing various internet searches.

@Outlier project management. You’re an engineer, correct? Get on LinkedIn and find a headhunter. Plants are still boomin’.

But the sign can’t hurt either.
