It's crazy to think that in less than 2 years this guy has become the Texans' first legit MVP candidate, first legit DPOY candidate, and has the biggest single play in franchise history. With JJ, Dre, Arian, Cush, Brown, Joseph, Manning, and Schaub it's a good time to be a Texans fan.
i thought it was stupid he didnt get that sack because dude got scared and fumbled. Watt was the first to touch him someone had to get the tackle. On another note that is why i dont waste time watching drafts. I dont watch wisconsin football none of us are in position to evaluate picks on players we dont know on draft day. Its a waste of time.
you should read the threads when the texans announced they will hire Wade Phillips as a defensive coordinator, thats a good laugh too. People getting so angry at Rick for it.
To be fair to SamFisher he has trouble analyzing lots of things. Watt has 16.5 sacks for the season and 15 pass deflections! WOW!
Here's the Phillips thread. It's 26 pages of hot anger. So much so that, at page 17, I up and left the darn thing, LOL. I remember it pretty well - it was like being on a tiny island, in the middle of nowhere getting bombed by a well-stocked air force.
I don't really blame people for being pissed. McNair would have been justified in letting Gary go. What I don't get, though, is people being pissed about hiring Wade. That was not a bad hire then, and it certainly isn't a bad hire now. I was in the fire Kubiak camp, and still believe he's a liability as a head coach once Wade leaves, but I did find this old nugget in that thread. SO glad this came true.
LOL, I was actually going to post that as one of the few worthwhile posts. What's sad is... man, if they had done this, well, from the start - but certainly after firing Ricahrd Smith...
I still remember your epic meltdowns after games in the 2010 season. I don't think I've ever laughed at a comment so hard as when you told Bob McNair to draw upon your hairy ballbag. That still makes me snicker a little bit.
JJ getting some love from one of the great coaches in the game. Patriots coach Bill Belichick on Watt: “He’s the most disruptive player in the league. Guy looks like the defensive player of the year to me.”
I defended Gary like a Spartan at Thermopylae after the 2009 season (having already hitched my wagon to him after 2008), and the way he let me down in 2010 really rustled my jimmies. So much great talent and time wasted in that span. edit: LOL I found them.
Sacks: JJ Watt - 16.5, Aldon Smith - 17.5 Passes defensed: JJ Watt – 14, Aldon Smith – 0 Tackles for loss (non-sacks): JJ Watt – 14.5 Aldon Smith – 2
I don't think many consider Aldon as a DPOY candidate and certainly not a MVP one. Of course, a freaky 5.5 sack game always helps
Me, too. Rereading that Phillips thread, I was surprised how adament I was about firing Kubiak. The 2009 season, more than 2010, will go down as the one that boils my gibblets. 2010... sometimes, young teams take steps back. But 2009 - it's hard to fathom the # of games they gave away. And they *still* had a shot at the playoffs as late as 7pm on the season's final Sunday. (BTW, rereading the thread you posted, DM - it's funny, now, to read all the "run the ball!" posts when - not as many, obviously - we now get a slew of "stop running the ball!" posts. Some people.....)
Funny to read Orange Mane(Broncos Message board) About as cocky as a group there is, and all consider Miller to be running away with the DPOY award. Watt has more sacks,TFL's, and PD. Miller has more FF(4) to Watts (2) and interceptions (1). They fail to account that JJ plays inside the line and of Watts 15 PD, 5 have led to turnovers. If the Texans stomp the Patriots on national television and JJ has one of his signature games, were not talking about DPOY any more.
True story, I was watching the Jets Bengals game praying for the Jets to lose. I remember during the pregame Chad Johnson slipped on a patch of ice and hurt his kneee and I thought he was joking around. But I remember thinking that if he played the Bengals would win and we would have fallen ass backwards into the playoffs. Chad played...one series and shut it down, Jets won, clinched the playoff and ended our year. So glad we're not in those types of situations anymore:grin:
the Bengals didn't even try in that game because the outcome didn't change anything. They were going to face the Jets or Texans at Cinci. They did what any team would have done, rest their players for the playoffs. Just like the Colts who could have made history with a perfect record, but their coach decided to mail it in against the Jets too.
It's not exactly being overly reactionary to want to fire a coach after a season in which you lose 8 of the last 10 games. Especially if that season follows a 9-7 season the year before. I was pretty adamant about firing him too. I seem to remember thinking the only reason Phillips was hired was so McNair could try and bring back the ol' Luv Ya Blue days... But again....at the time, it wasn't so outlandish to suggest that a coach should be fired after a season like 2010.
