You guys are way too hard. JJ is human, he thought he found a home in Houston. He was a good player for us and I don't blame him for being pissed, why shouldn't he make waves. Hell, didn't T-Mac, VC and Shaq make waves and force their teams to trade them and they were making megabucks to play for their respective teams.
Couldn't agree more! Unfortunately, the way CD was talking, I don't think there is a another deal in the works...
I the trade should be okay.......we have people playing their actual positions now. DW, JBarry, Sura---play the 1 and 2 T-mac, Bowen, Padget--the 3 spot The 3 clowns at the 4 Yao and Deke at the 5 Now if only we can get P J Brown, Lee Benson, or some legit 4.
WTF!!! Sh*t trade that shouldn't have happened...It'll grow on me, but 2 for 1...c'mon...I would have been ok with Boki straight up as I like JJ's game...
No. If you take at face value the Rockets statements that McGrady is an SF, then we had a gaping hole at the off-guard spot. Jim Jackson was incapable of being a guard defensively and wasn't much other than a spot up shooter on offense who missed open shots. Now we've got a shooting guard. Not a great one, but one who can fill the role better than Jackson.
Agree about Boki, but he will be the x-factor in this trade. If he proves to be better than me and you think then this will go down as another bad trade for the Rox. I think the roster looks more like this because Sura can't play major minutes with fluid on his knee. His playing time will be limited until he recovers. PG Wesley SG Barry SF T-Mac PF Juwan C Yao This trade only makes sense if the reports of PGs being hurt are true, I would have sat tight after the Barry trade, we are 12-14 not 2-25 and didn't need to go into panic mode. I like the trade on paper but I don't like the message this sends to the players when you take a guy that was a team leader that played 40+ minutes and gave a consistent effort, it's bad for morale.
A small personal aside Any team, from any sport, could probably benefit from adding a Fighting Longview Lobo!
I still don't and probably won't know what I think about this trade for a while. I don't think any of us should jump to conclusions for at least a month. Let's see how all of this shakes out and see if it actually improves the Rockets on the court. I don't blame JJ for being pissed. Who wouldn't be pissed about being traded from a "playoff contender" to a team on pace to be the worst ever? It's a good move for Boki. He get's a chance to show what he's got. I sure hope he proves us wrong. If not, he will not be back in the NBA next season.
Well, at first glance it doesn't look like a great trade since most feel that JJ and Wesley are basically the same player. I'm going to reserve judgment though until we've seen this group play together for a few weeks. I wonder if other members of the team are pissed about seeing JJ go?
When I saw this trade go through, I was a little displeased. While Boki is an obvious throwaway, I just don't like how they tossed JJ in the deal for a guard (Wesley) clearly on the decline. He can play some point, but is he a true point guard the Rox have not had since the Jet? No. For that reason alone, this trade stinks.
I don't like this trade, because it seems short-sighted. I know the fans are frustrated, and they felt they had to come up with something that worked. But, to give up Boki in the deal was terrible. We need to develop tradeable assetts and we weren't doing that with him. At the least, we should have sent him to someone who valued him more, such as the coach in PHO. We didn't get value in return, and we desperately need to build a team over the next few years to run with Yao and TMac. This is a short term move, and very short sighted, IMHO. We don't seem to know who to hold onto to, and who to let go, so we build a team. Now, next year, we'll regret losing Boki. You watch. Think Eddie, KT, Posey. And, this is a sucky way to treat JJ ...
Ugh! I'll reserve final judgement 'til I see how things work out, but I really don't like this. The only clear advantages that I see for Wesley over Jackson are speed and ball handling. Other than that, Jackson is 5" taller, shoots a little better and comes at a much cheaper price. I hope they have something else cooking.
Actually, both T-Mac and JJ are 2 guards. The prime reason JJ played the 3 spot was first, Mobley was the incumbent and then because they got T-Mac who was a far superior player at the 2. But as has been chronicled here, JJ had physical liabilities on the defensive end playing the 3. Now, they plan to have T-Mac who has been an all-star at the 2, move over to the 3. This will be very interesting to watch because if T-Mac struggles, he will be VERY unhappy and we've all seen what happens when T-Mac gets unhappy. The fact that they had to move T-Mac to make this trade work bothers me a lot.
I like jcantu's analysis of the trade. I doubt JJ would start for any other team in the league. He is not that great of a defender, can't pass for squat and didn't add anything to running the break. I think Wesley or Sura or Barry at SG and T-mac at SF is a lot better combo than T-mac at SG and JJ at SF. It is unbelievable that anyone thinks the trade is unfair to JJ. Unfortunate for him, maybe, but unfair?? Ridiculous! I liked Boki a lot, because I saw a 6"9" guy that hustled, could handle the ball very well and was a good passer. Unfortunately, up to this point, he hasn't shown the nads to just go out and play to his potential, whether for JVG or for Rudy. If the guy ever gets an attitude, he will be very good. I hope he does. I don't think he would have gotten much more of a chance from JVG. I have always been impressed with Wesley. I hope the clutch part of his shooting continues. That was one problem with Pike. He put up good stats with the Clippers, but never had any pressure to make something when it counted. When he came to the Rockets, he couldn't hit much when they needed him to.
We didn't give up Nochbar in the trade. JVG had already given up on him. He would have be gone at the seasons end and spent most of this season on the bench. The idea in this thread about becoming an older team doesn't wash. If your young players aren't playing. I haven't seen Wesley play this year. I have seen him in the past and remember him being a consistently good shooter. He will be able to hit the open shots. He will take advantage of the double teams Yao and Mcgrady see, much better than any of our other guards. The point about McGrady moving to the 3, not adjusting well and souring is a good one. I remember hearing something about him not liking to play the 3. If Mcgrady can adjust, I think the trade will work out well. We will have added a new scoring threat at guard. It will keep opposing guards from cheating on defense. We need to keep those little hands on the perimeter away from Yao's balls.
In my opinion MOST of the time when you make a trade you either: 1)Get younger 2)Get taller 3)Improve stats 4)Get draft picks (could be under #1) We didn't do any of these with this trade so I don't think it looks too good, but notice I did use the word MOST. There is always the chance that the trade could: 5)Help your team chemistry I'm still hoping this is what happens... Pugs
It is a fact that ALL of the time when you make a trade you either: 1)Get younger or get older 2)Get taller or get shorter 3)Improve stats or see a decline 4)Get draft picks (could be under #1) or lose draft picks We did all of that. 5)Help your team chemistry You only legit point. lol.
