Lost in all this (I think....) is that JJ took a below market deal (3 yr / $7.3MM) to come here. I'm sure he had an expectation to get taken care of after his 3 yr deal was up. No wonder he's a little peeved.
I don't blame JJ for being mad - not only is he being traded from a solid playoff contender (if not a playoff lock) to a terrible team after his best game of the season but he's also being traded (along with filler in Boki) for a player of lesser caliber. Maybe his refusal to report will kill this trade - although I imagine his relationship with JVG is now killed as well. I almost wonder if Les is allowing JVG to hang himself with his idiotic decision-making so that the guy will quit after this year. Wesley will be off the books next year, much sooner than JVG would if he sticks around. Still, unless this trade leads to another trade, I am not happy. A defensively weak and old combo guard is not going to improve this team. even if he is a good shooter. Barret was more than capable of filling in if Sura is indeed going on the injured list, and T-Mac and JIM JACKSON could have helped get the ball across half court occasionally. Jim Jackson was a good contributor, and we only should have traded him for a rebounder.
We should be able to get more by moving both Boki & JJ. I like Wesley's game though, he's just pretty old.
Absolutely wretched trade. From any angle. We violated the cardinal rule in NBA trading: don't trade big for small. We've cleaned out our 3s for a 34 year old, 6-1 SG. We traded the best bargain player in the league and a final year guy for someone making more money (owed another $5 million next year). So it takes us backwards capwise. We just traded the closest thing to a locker room leader we had on the roster for yet another complete stranger. We just traded a guy that took a paycut to be a member of the team. You tell me that won't cross another free agent's mind down the road. Even if we are clearing space for a follow up trade, WHY DID WE JUST ALLOW OUR THIRD BEST PLAYER GO FOR SCRAP??????. Jackson was an absolutely perfect fit for this team. Only thing that would calm me down would be if we're getting a protected #1 (no way NO hands over this year's). Evan
Would someone please call Rich and Marc and tell them that the fans AREN'T happy about this trade. They are saying, "I think fans are going to be happy with this deal." Uh, no.

Rockets Acquire David Wesley from Hornets Houston Sends Jim Jackson and Bostjan Nachbar to New Orleans The Houston Rockets have acquired veteran guard David Wesley from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for forwards Jim Jackson and Bostjan Nachbar, Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson announced today. Wesley joins the Rockets with career averages of 13.3 points, 4.8 assists and 1.46 steals in 789 NBA games. “The addition of David solidifies our backcourt,” said Dawson. “David can play both guard positions and has proven himself as a consistent and effective scorer with very good ball-handling skills. It is never easy parting with players such as Bostjan and Jimmy but in this league you have to give up quality players in order to get quality players.” Wesley averaged 13.9 points (133-342) and 4.2 assists while starting in all 26 games for the Hornets this season. Wesley led the Hornets in points (361), assists (109), steals (35) and 3-PT shots made (28). His season highlights include a 23-point performance at Charlotte on Dec. 14th and a 10-assist night at Milwaukee on Nov. 13th. Wesley began his NBA career by signing with the New Jersey Nets for the 1993-94 season as an undrafted free agent out of Baylor. The following season, he signed with the Boston Celtics as an unrestricted free agent where he played for three seasons (1994-97) before signing as a free agent with the Hornets. Wesley played the past 8-plus years for the Hornets and leaves as the organization’s all-time leader in games started (517) and ranks second behind Dell Curry in total career points (7,670) and 3-Point FGs made (644). Jackson was averaging 13.3 points, 3.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game in 24 starts for the Rockets this season. Nachbar averaged 3.1 points, .6 assists and 1.5 rebounds while seeing action in 16 games, including two starts. Its official we are becoming the Clippers.
Let's face it Rox are Tmac and Yao and a bunch of bench players. Shuffliing the bench players is not so bad. JJ has done OK but let's not forget that he was a "has been" since before he left Dallas. I would like for someone to tell me how this makes sense on the court for the Rox? Does moving TMac to the 3 make him and Yao more effective I.E. creating a strong side with three good 3pt shooters on the backside? Please 'splain this to me.
I haven't been a big JJ fan this year, but this trade still makes zero sense to me right now. We just got smaller and older. Now Van Gundy has an unhappy locker room and if he moves TMac to the 3 then TMac isn't going to be happy. What a way to entice other players to come player here for the MLE. And what happened to the supposed LOYALTY that Van Gundy talks about so much with his players? I don't think JJ should have been starting for this team. I thought he would have been great off the bench. Now we got another player who wasn't good enough to play the 1, so NO moved him to the 2 and he was an extremely undersized 2. How does this trade make us better?
jj leads rockets in balanced scoring attack, and what do we do? throw him to the dogs for some scrap? no identity, no heart, no soul, anyone could me next, but how many times are we going to tinker before we ruin the product? we are not going to the playoffs
I don't have a problem with the trade, but if there is one thing that does irks me is what you said above. I agree with that. I think thats the overwealing sentiment about this trade. Hopefully Jeff and others are correct in predicting that something else is a'brewing. This, I have to disagree with. I found Jackson played well with Francis and Mobley, but with Yao and T-Mac this year, he hasn't shown much and certainly not a "perfect fit" for this team. Although I think Jackson is a great player and a class act, like many players, he has to be in the right situation (see Sac) -- something more uptempo. Stuart
