"While a source close to Butler contends that his intense, direct style can come off as combative as he's trying to make clear his viewpoints, Butler's sluggish assimilation into the Sixers environment is causing some concern about his long-term viability and fit with the organization, league sources said. Nevertheless, the franchise's full focus and resources remain on making this new partnership work this season and beyond." "Butler has expressed a desire to teammates that he hopes to play in more traditional pick-and-roll and isolation sets, rather than trying to find his place in the Sixers free-flowing offense, league sources said. In searching for answers, Butler has met privately with Brown and his coaching staff, as well as general manager Elton Brand, league sources told ESPN." "Butler, 29, can become a free agent this summer, and the organization's preference has been to re-sign him to an extension. Rival teams believe that Butler will eventually decide to take meetings with interested suitors in July. Butler's preference has been to sign a more lucrative deal to remain with the Sixers, but it's clear that there are issues to be worked out before that comfort level fully exists." Spoiler It's happening!
Morey dodges another bullet? Are we going to be forced to call Morey, "Neo"? Listening to some of the ringer podcasts (they have a lot of Philly people on the staff) they say Jimmy is not that great with team defense.
This is a great read to get a better idea of what is going on with Butler and Philly. Sheds some light on a number of things.
Unless the Sixers make it very far in the playoffs I can't see Butler coming back to this team and that should benefit both parties involved. He either wants: 1. A team that is ready to build around him, like the teams he listed earlier this season as preferred destinations (Brooklyn, Miami). or 2. A team that has established veterans that are ready to win now. I honestly think he'll end up on either LA team depending on how they fare with other FAs like Durant and Thompson.
Imagine if we traded P.J. Tucker, Eric Gordon, and FOUR first round picks for a 1 year rental of Jimmy Butler. This is why Daryl Morey is a GM and not me.
Imagine if we traded Capela and picks for him and we were rolling with Butler and Rivers right now instead of Rivers and Shumpert.
We would've been eliminated in the first round. Even if we beat the Warriors, we'd have no answer for Jokic.
Ehhh.... I don't know about that. Jokic can get 50 and the Nuggets can still lose. Capela for Butler is a tough one because of the age and salary difference. I have to say that rolling out out Paul/Harden/Butler/Tucker at the 1-4 defensively sounds nasty.
