You challenged my assertion that Golden State got better, did you not? If not, then how did we get here. Your reasoning was their offense got worse. As far as other players, Schroeder had a very minimal impact on that team. The guy is sort of irrelevant. I do think Butler making 60M is outrageous and I also think that risk far outweighs the reward, but I feel that he will improve the Golden State Warriors, while performing significantly below his contract.

Best case for the Warriors is their floor was raised. Worst case for the Warriors is their floor remains ~same and they are locked into mediocrity or worse for two years after this season because of Jimmy's absolutely insane contract. IMO, reality will be somewhere in the middle, probably closer to the worst case. Barring injuries, they are a lock for the play-in if Jimmy adapts to their style of basketball quickly. However, Draymond is 34, Jimmy is 35 and Steph is 36. At least two of those guys (maybe all 3) will suffer a deep decline soon. It's already started for Draymond. Similar for Steph, but I do think he has a couple of good years left if he can stay healthy. He is no longer a franchise player. Jimmy will certainly slip also. What will almost certainly smack the Warriors in the face are injuries. These 3 guys are going to miss a lot games. I think the desperation in this trade is the Warriors giving this season and the next two to Steph as a parting gift to allow him to retire as a Warrior in 2027. It's a grand gesture to the greatest in franchise history who led them to 4 championships and it shows some class.
Yes - I think the fit is bad. But that isn't based on 1 player compared to 1 other player. Their overall record may improve slightly past .510, but there's nothing significant enough in this move to worry anyone actually in the playoffs already (in my opinion - I might be wrong, we'll see).
Jimmy is a bigger name but in reality it is chip or bust for GSW so there is no other way around it....it is meh because Jimmy is old and has limitations.
lol at lost depth Kyle Anderson, who averages 5 points and didn’t play in 13 games…Dennis Schroder, who was shooting 37% from the field and 32% from deep
Jimmy is old expensive and he missing 25 games a year. I am glad the Warriors did so they can finally die a quick death.
Hahaha love it for Warriors and cannot wait for it to blow up in their faces. Heat did well considering, but probably should’ve had a young guy at least like Kuminga.
Wiggins plays the 2nd most mins after Steph at 30 mpg, Schroder is #4 at 29 mpgv. Kyle Anderson averages 15 mpg and Waters averages 17 mpg. https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2025.html The guy replacing them is even older and more injury prone than these guys.
If you assume Jimmy stays healthy, sure. But most of us aren't willing to make that assumption. They lost three valuable role players in the deal, so they're a lot thinner now. And if Jimmy misses significant games, they're totally screwed.
I think this move was just to keep the Warriors relevant for the next 2 years… meaning more ESPN and TNT games and more money for the NBA. Same with the Luka trade to the Lakers. When LeBron and Curry are in the spotlight, the NBA makes the most money. I still believe Curry and LeBron will team up and win a championship together before it’s all said and done.
