This was really satisfying to hear for those of us who have done a lot of arguing on behalf of Mario for the last couple years. I found an article a couple weeks ago that blamed the houston media for being the ones that made everyone believe Bush was a better player

The white guy from PTI said "people" were wrong during the draft but the other one pointed out that they were guilty too but it was half ass. Rome is the first to come out CLEARLY and BOLDLY admit that he was flat wrong. ESPN's main page has never featured the new pario and page2 (a huge and brutal critic) hasn't touched the subject.

This is a wrap up of Jim's take on the radio which he went through word for word on his TV show.

Quick shout out to Houston Texans stud, Mario Williams. Speaking on behalf the entire universe, sorry we crushed and vilified you before you had even stepped on to your first NFL field. Sorry, we annihilated you as the NFL’s Sam Bowie before you had even had a chance to rush your first NFL QB…and we’re all guilty of it.

Who amongst us didn’t jump the Texans for taking Williams over Reggie Bush and Vince Young. I mean, has there even been more pressure on a draft pick. Even if he succeeded, he still failed. No matter what he did, it would never be enough. Considering he went first and who he was taken over, he had to be a once in a lifetime player. Playing great wasn’t enough, he had to take over games by himself…and that’s exactly what he’s doing now. Taking over games. He hounded Jay Cutler last night like he owed him money or stole something from him…sacked him three and half times…giving him 9 in the last 5 games alone.

The guy is playing like a stronger Dwight Freeney…a faster Patrick Kerney. He’s playing like the number one pick overall…and he’s playing much better than Bush and V-Y. Bush and Young relied on their natural ability last year and both have taken big steps backwards this year. Williams, on the other hand, stayed the course and caught up with his ability, and now he dominating…and best of all, despite all the heat he took, he never once lashed out, got bent or demanded an apology. Well, here’s the apology you never asked for Mario, but deserve. You’re a beast on the field, a class act off it. You’ve blown by Bush and Young. You’re living up to the hype and it looks the Texans knew exactly what they were doing. See you in Honolulu, Mario!

I'd like to repost this gem from a Daily Texan (UT student paper) writer from Sept 06. I think it speaks wonders of the kind of **** they were coming up with last year:

Mario bombs

This is probably the easiest prediction to forecast, because Texans rookie Mario Williams has absolutely zero chance of not going down in history alongside Sam Bowie.

In April's NFL Draft, Williams was selected over Vince Young, a messiah with endless talent, and Reggie Bush, a lightning-quick Barry Sanders with better hands and bigger muscles. In order for Texans fans (of which there are an increasingly select few left) to ever justify this perplexing front office move, Williams will have to be the greatest defensive end of all-time.

A Standing Ovation for Mr Rome for doing what few in the sports media world have the ability or are willing to admit to villifying Mario and redress that egregious mistake.

Jim Rome may be an obnoxious ass from time to time. He may sometimes talk to hear his head rattle but occasionally he takes the time to get it right separating fact from fiction.

Kudos to Jim Rome for MAN'ing up! While guys like Olbermann are beyond arrogant and blindly stupid in their gross misanalyses.

He's absolutely right! Mario last year could average 2 sacks a game and he still would have been considered a bust! Why because VY WAS THE MAN last year! Key word: WAS!

I agree with Jim..."best of all" is that Mario never lashed back. He never acted jackass about it. He just showed it on the field. That shows HUGE character...and it's very easy to root for a guy like that.

I certainly had my doubts about Mario. But I was absolutely wrong. He's a beast.

i can't find that thread in the hangout that everyone posted the over/under for the NFL season.

i remember setting the bar at 6.5 sacks for Mario and EVERYONE took the under.

I like Jim Rome's radio show. He is very entertaining and I get a lot of laughs out of his show. I know a lot don't like him, but I am the few that do enjoy his radio show.

Actually, the writer implied Reggie was more talented than Barry Sanders. You inferred his bias from his article.

Why even bother quoting from a student college paper? You may as well quote some joker's typo-filled blog.

That said, nice to see the shift finally start to happen within the media. Peter King, avid Bush lover, even reversed stance this past week.
