Apparently Jim Jordan is dropping his effort for the speakership and is backing making McHenry the speaker, at least for awhile.

Can't blame them too much. I'm unsure if courage and competent leadership can persuade this MAGA wing. Blame for this mess is on the American people for electing these wing nuts, who have zero interest in governing.

Sure - but part of the idea courage is doing things even when the odds are against them. The fact that they aren't even willing to try is the lack of courage. This doesn't even require individual courage. I mean, there are 20+ non-MAGA GOPers in Congress that can have just as much veto-power as the Gaetz caucus - they can just come out and say "Jim Jordan or anyone like him will never be speaker". But they aren't even willing to do that and instead allowing Jordan to become the face of their party (even though he won't end up speaker).

That's fair and well taken. However, at the same time, we've seen an escalation in threats toward those members who wouldn't vote for Jordan. Would you subject yourself and your family to death threats by publicly standing up against the MAGA wing, knowing you won't be elected Speaker? Taking that principled stand does require very strong courage. And you are right, there is none in the House. The only Republican in Congress that has that courage is Mitt Romney (though he said himself that he can afford 24/7 security for his family that many members cannot).

Who even gets to decide if it can come up for a vote?

What?? I thought he was dropping out....and now he is going to try again, this dude is an idiot. Pick someone who is a moderate who can actually govern and get things done and nominate them, no one wants gym to do this except for trump which is why he is being so emboldened.

It's supposed to be McHenry. Jordan is not supposed to be deciding these things at all.

I assume the Jordan wing's response: just vote for me and it'll all stop.

Jim Jordan denying and/or ignoring an election result (and then trying to have far right influencers harass voters) seems totally on-brand.

There are no moderate Republicans - just a few that haven’t been living off a diet of lead paint chips the past few decades

Maybe once Jordan loses enough elections, the Freedom Caucus will be disgraced enough that a deal for a moderate Speaker won't be so vulnerable to criticism in the next primary.
