I am definitely on the Jim Jackson bandwagon. The similarities to Mario Elie are right on. JJ is a calming influence on the court. Does all the little things. Is a great role player on offense and is solid on Defense. Great role player for this team.
I can't believe this. I opened the thread not knowing if it would be a pro JJ thread or one against him, and it's overwhelmingly positive. I'm actually going to throw a little bit of the negative in here, though I'm really happy that he's on the team. It's not really negative, since it is both negative and positive but compared to the gushing reviews elsewhere in the thread it's a little more down. JJ is great, as long as he doesn't hesitate to shoot. There was one key possession last night, and almost all of them in our loss to Memphis where Jackson was wide open and passed on the shot, then tried to penetrate, and eventually the Rockets get a TO. JJ is prone to turn the ball over when all he tries to do is drive. I love it when he takes the open shot. On the Defensive end he's terrific, and is probably the best guy on the team at throwing the entry pass to Yao when he's posting up. I was in favor of losing Rice even though it might cost us in the FA market during the next off-season. Even though Rice wasn't traded for JJ, it was that trade that allowed us to sign the veteran. JJ was the one that made it all worthwhile for me. He's much better for this team than Rice was, I just want him to shoot when he as the open shot and cut down on his TO's.
JJ has always been a stud. He was a huge star in his early day in Dallas. I just can't understand why he bounced from team to team that much. Some numbers from his career high: 50 pts, 12 off rebs, 14 total rebs, 12 ass, 7 steals. Just awesome!
Hate to say I told you so.... But I started a thread wanting this guy, only about 15 replys.... I also started a thread for trading KT for Posey.... well, about 3 days later.... trade for Posey, KT to Phili, so on. JJ is exactly what the doctor ordered. Hard D, Makes right passes, rebounds, will get his shot back.
JJ is a hard worker and a smart player that knows what JVG want from him and the only guy that passes to Yao at most opportunity. I really like this guy and I hope he continued to play the way he's been playing. We dont need no big EGO on this team and we know who's the big EGO on this team.
jim jackson is a very good player who recieves little credit from the fans and his teammates have u noticed he doesnt look happy in the court? during the game last night steve yelled at him and i think jim told him to chill out..... we needa make him happy hurr in houston!!!
Let me just stop the "JJ is the ONLY ONE who PASSES to Yao " train from the Y-O-F's for a second to note that JVG's offense seemingly places the small forward in the left wing spot most of the time....of course he passes it to Yao. It's kind of hard for Steve/moochie/mobley to pass the ball to Yao when he has already passed it to Jackson.
Lets enjoy this stat comparison: Jim Jackson 2003-04 Statistics PPG 10.3 RPG 6.3 APG 3.3 SPG 2.50 BPG .00 FG% .436 FT% 1.000 3P% .429 MPG 34.5 James Posey 2003-04 Statistics PPG 6.7 RPG 5.0 APG 2.7 SPG 2.33 BPG .33 FG% .368 FT% .714 3P% .167 MPG 28.7 How much less are we paying JJ? 3M?
He has been nothing short of a huge pick up. Might be the difference in finishing 1 game out of the playoffs and a 6 or 7 seed. Doesn't have the outstanding stats that he used to put up in his Mavs days. He knows now that he doesn't need them. Play tough defense against opposing teams best player Check Good passing Check Hit the open jumper Check What else could you ask for?
Now compare JP to Pike and AG. I would rather have had JJ and JP and forget the rest. JJ has been a great signing for sure.
Pike and AG both have stats that are very similar to JP especially if you convert them to per minute stats and both of them cost half what JP costs. JP = way over rated
I'd rather pay double for JP than have Pike and AG. Defense, hustle and being a valuable team-oriented player doesn't always show up in stats.
The same can be said for AG. Not that I'm anti Posey, I am thinking EP and AG combined fill more situational roles than Posey can.
