Whenever someone brings up Toni Braxton with Jimmy, he shakes it off and laughs.... I asked him once as well.
Nobody "ended" his career. How about telling your "friend" Jimmy Jackson to be a professional, play out his contract and become a free agent at the end of the year and sign with a championship contender instead of pouting like a baby, retiring and having people whine that Van Gundy and the Rockets ended his career. As for players are taking notes, if you really believe that players around the league wouldn't want to play on the Rockets with McGrady and Yao because the Rockets traded freaking Jimmy Jackson then I'm sorry, you're naive.
Oh, please. Jackson was great for the first 5 months he was with the team. Then he began to think he was a star and didn't play by the game plan - that featured McGrady and Yao, not Jim Jackson. He wanted to be the 3rd star. Instead, he became the 3rd wheel. So we ditched him. Big freaking deal.
Hell yeah, you tell him. We had so many point guards lining to play for the Rockets during the summer that we landed Ward and Sura. Ain't no way to beat that.
Uh, exactly. Free agents line up and take pay cuts to play with Kobe and Shaq. Other than that, Rockets fans shoud have learned last summer that this team is no more attractive than 20 other NBA teams.
It's really simple... business is business, you get traded, you get traded... Everyone in the NBA understands this. Has nayone ever thought about this: Why hasn't JJ been able to stick with a team long term? He has always been traded away... for some reason this always happens. I loved JJ and what he brought to our team but I think Wesley was a good move. We need to be more athletic. Barry and Wes have helped us out in these areas.
I don't blame JJ for being sick of having to move his family around 11 times and it's surprising that nobody is considering the negative effect so much movement and uprooting of his family has most likely had. And look at what a crappy city New Orleans is crimewise....I've been there and had a good time but the economy is bad, their judisicial system is as crooked as they come, and it does't sound like the kind of city to raise a family in if you had a choice in the matter and obviously retirement was an option and perhaps his way of showing his respect for his family by putting and end to what he's had them endure. Money's not everything to a child who continually loses their friends by relocating...Maybe this was the biggest thing JJ could do and it had nothing to do with basketball or money. I'm sure his family is feeling pretty good about his choice and that's all that matters. Screw the NBA which hasn't showed him any love and screw the Hornets sorry a$$ team too. Lastly, JJ had made many statements about the need for time to develop cohesion and chemistry on a team with so many new players, which any wise veteran can understand and perhaps JVG thought that JJ's more realistic outlook didn't reflect JVG's neuorotic sense of urgency and the general impatience that JVG displays. I respect JJ and wish the best for not only him but his family as well. Putting family first which very well could be the case here is very classy and moreso when you leave cash on the table.
Thank you for telling me what I'm thinking. Could you tell me how I feel about the weather today, because I wasn't real sure.
i completely understand jj's desicion to retire(if he does) but why does that mean i have to think the rocket's did something terribly wrong? i think the idea that this trade damages the rockets' image is insane. they did nothing more then trade a player in an attempt to better the team. simple as that. you can't run a succesful nba team with the mindset some of you want the rockets to have. i liked jj and wouldn't have minded one bit if he had retired as a rocket but i think he'll be alright. THE DREAM finished his career in a FREAKIN' TORONTO RAPTORS jersey, you think anyone cares about that anymore.
I do. It still makes me sad to think that one of, if not the biggest sports icon in Houston history, Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon, fading away on an outcast expansion team in Canada.
He should have owned up to his word and retired instead of bilking Toronto out of nearly 10 million. DD
Man, there's nothing like a bunch of men sitting around and discussing the feelings of another man... On a purely cognitive level, those who defend the Rockets for this decision, and justify it by pointing to the history of the sport and the nature of the business appear to be using logic !! Silly ClutchFans... Logic is for kids!! Logic has no place in a discussion about emotion... From JJ's perspective, he got screwed ON A PERSONAL AND EMOTIONAL LEVEL... not from a business or pro-sports level!! I happen to agree that JJ deserved a better fate as well as (dare I say it) a demonstration of more loyalty from JVG and CD and LeSS... All you hard-asses out there who think of yourselves as "real men" will surely pounce on this post with the usual malice and thuggery in order to reinforce your self-image as tough guys for whom emotion is a foreign concept!! There is MUCH discussion on this board and throughout sports as to whether players "get what they deserved"... Does MoT deserve what he's got? NO!! Did CD / Les A do everything they could to bring in the BEST coach after Rudy left... Absolutely NOT!! Should we have even remotely considered Lue/Ward as possible PG's... NO Frickin Way!! Was JJ treated with diginity and respect by the Rockets Organization??? UH - NO!! CD can go get bent as far as I'm concerned. The man had a chance to hire Paul Silas or Mike Dunleavy after losing the Larry Brown sweepstakes, and instead we get Mr. Personality!! JJ, I've got your back - Godspeed and good luck!!
JJ was here for just over a year, right? What's the big to-do? The guy has been on 10 teams... he's a floater. He's the Chucky Brown of the New Millenium.
Hey now !! Don't go insulting Chucky Brown, that guy is almost on a Matt Bullard plateau as far as legends go.
