There are too many assumptions in that experiment that are not accurate. For instance, the World Trade Center was not supported by a rigid external structure, but rather a series of columns rising up through the center of the building.

That shows how little knowledge you have when you compare conventional conflicts with definitive goals to a war against an unconventional enemy with -- at best -- 'vague' goals.

For the last time: 'terrorism' is a tool of war. It existed centuries before America was founded and will exist long after America's demise. You don't fight 'terrorism', you fight a specific enemy. If we're at a 'war against terror', then it will be a never-ending war with no end in sight, even if it drags on for centuries.

Don't buy into slogans such as "War on Terror", they're nothing more than catchy phrases with little or no meaning designed to rally the ignorant masses.

Now, what would be more accurate is to define the enemy: is it Al-Qaida? Is it radical Islamic militants? Is it state-sponsored terrorism? Is it dictatorial regimes in the Middle East? Is it a combination of all these things/groups? Is it expanding our empire? Is it world domination? What is it? What's the objective?

As for this capture of a wannabe terrorist, good news no matter what. What does it prove? It proves what tens -- if not hundreds -- of respected world leaders/US government officials have always said: you fight radicalism/terrorism through police actions (i.e. law enforcement), not unilateral wars on sovereign nations that inflame terrorism and radicalize people.

In other words, the goal is expanding American influence/ideas/values abroad and removing any obstacles to achieving that goal. I could buy into that, it fits a 'pattern' of US foreign policy for more than half a century.

The funny thing is when you say something like that, people dismiss you out of hand as a 'conspiracy theorist', when all you have to do is examine factual documents/evidence to reach a conclusion. The premise of 'perpetual conflict' or 'constant conflict' has been promoted by some policymakers as the best way to farther American interests abroad and at home.

I came across this long article in the past, it's worth your time if you're interested in this kind of stuff. This isn't some loony 'left-wing' crap, there are people in positions of power in our country who hold and promote these views, and succeed at doing so:

    America is very, very ambitious...

Bull. You have plenty of time. What you lack is the courage of your convictions. And also convictions. And also courage. And so you will run away like you do every time I or someone else challenges you to back up your simple, jingoistic, "You're doing a heckuva job, Bushie!" hokum.

You already know my take, but here it is again:

Restore the funding that was stupidly cut from NYC's homeland security budget and carry out every single recommendation made by the 9/11 commission -- in other words, do everything in the government's power to protect its people from attacks. Now you can either tell me which part of that you disagree with or run away like the puffed up chicken you are. I think we all know which one you'll choose.

i saw that dumb recreation on another BBS.. my god.. how entirely moronic.

anyway, a few points on this thread.

"war on terrorism" is a political hook, like a catchy lyric in a song. most don't even know what it really means or entails, but they like the way it sounds because it conveys a sense of finality and definition.

you can't wage war on an idea. you can't wage war on a tactic. and its arguable if you can even wage war on a group of secretive, religious extremists that claim no nationalism... every country is fighting a "war" on terrorism right now, and they always have been.. why else have countries protected their own borders?

The insurgents are pretty smart. They wanted to flood NYC. The one thing your government can't do is protect the citizens from water.

The media has told me that water isn't the problem, but rather the looters and refugees that come as a result of the water.

I think it's been established that link was a joke, but the floors of the building were suspended between the *single* inner core and the steel outer frame and thus both had to remain intact to prevent the pancake collapse.
There were no support columns between the two which made for huge open spaces inside the building. Quite innovative.

I'm guessing you have a pretty good grasp on what happened but just in case.. Picture the removable shelfs in a fridge, put a gallon of milk in the middle of the shelf to simulate the weight of the floor and all stuff on it. Now imagine what happens when the walls of the fridge are weakened and are allowed to move apart.

I have yet to see a conspiracy theory that doesn't ignore either common sense or the way the building was constructed. The most laughable has got to be the explosives theory.

Yeah thats it, Foil Hat People, terrorists or the gov. or aliens loaded two buildings with explosives without anyone noticing and then just for giggles flew two airliners into them.

texxx runs away again. Won't say if he supports or opposes the 9/11 commission recommendations or cutting 40% from the NYC homeland security budget. Why am I not surprised? Are there any righties at all that will stand up for what they believe in? No? Okay.

LOL I'm not running anywhere. Which parts of the 9/11 commission are you even talking about? I'm not a supporter of cutting NYC's terrorism budget. Another one of your many faulty assumptions. Liberals' continual complaining about the war on terror and trivializing it doesn't exactly build support for more funding. I love how your side has tried to politicize this, by the way. You're still viewed as weak on terror - sorry.

A great lot of the 9/11 commission's recommendations have been thwarted by the Bush admin (as the commission itself was, when Bush was against it before he was for it), which has also been silent on the cuts to NYC homeland security. Bush is not serious about protecting America and neither are you. You are both only interested in convincing people that the other side is "weak on terror." You couldn't care less about terror. This is a football game to you.

But I will ask again, even while I know I won't get a substantive answer from you (after all, no one ever has), which recommendations from the 9/11 commission are you in favor of blocking?

Who would bother when you've already answered to your own satisfaction? At that point, it doesn't matter what anyone would try to say.

I'd like you to break down each finding from the 9/11 commission and give me your thoughts on them first. How can we implement each finding? How much would it cost? What would be the implications of each finding? How do you feel each finding would help homeland security?

    thanks brah
