when jvg said rafer was doing great, he emphasized rafer can bring ball up w/o TO. jvg used a very simple offense schema - half court. when ra said rafer was doing great. it means rafer not only protect ball very well and also he passed ball great within ra's offense system.
In all fairness, while it seems at times like the entire board is a fickle band of idiots jumping at every whim during the ups and downs of the season, it's mainly just Dakota and the rookie posters.
why people keep comparing rafer's performance last year - with an entirely different coach, system, and roster - to his potential performance this year is beyond me.
Yeah, because I am the one that said someone was cuddling with 12 year olds, right? Oh, I freely admit I get emotionally attached, but sometimes us fickle up and downers are just people that are just ahead of the curve, and recognize trends long before the general serfs like yourself. And, other times, we are just caught up in the moment, it is up to you do cipher it out. Now off with your head lettuce boy ! And isn't it time to bury the hatchet on your DD hatorade? I mean you whine about me a lot, I think maybe you need a hug. DD
why people ridicule him for not being a better scorer, when thats not his skill set, is beyond me as well. Really, if the most ugly stat on his line was not pertaining to fg%, then he wouldnt get near as much ridicule. It's like bashing yao for being slow and unathletic...or deke for not having a better mid range game...they are weak areas that you live with because they provide more benefits elsewhere. You cover yaos lack of speed with someone quicker around him and defensive help. You cover deke's lack of a mid range game by...well by not passing him the ball on offense. You cover rafers lack of scoring ability by letting him set other people up and spot up for 3's (which he is fairly good at), or at least never letting him shoot a tear drop
Well, it's not just last year. That is basically how he played his entire career. And that "potential performance" has only been two preseason games. It's pretty obvious why folks keep bringing up his performance last season.
I've added color coding to help you understand why I replied. This thread, entitled "Jick Van Gundelman", was comparing last year and this year despite a different coach, system, and roster, specifically saying Rafer's performance ("great") was something the two seasons had in common.
The same thing happened whenever JVG took over for Rudy T. Remember when JVG was brought in to "reign in" Steve Francis and establish some discipline? Remember when that didn't work?
Pretty rainbow replies. Clutch can you set me up with a macro to set my font color randomly on every spacebar keystroke?
Any good coach will emphasise on the fundamentals. Low turnover is a fundamental in the NBA, let alone a top NBA team like the Rockets (I hope).
Agreed. As much as I love Chuck there is no way you can leave him as the only PF on the roster, or bring in an unknown with JVG as coach. The player they brought in with the trade wouldn't know JVG's defensive system (and would have to be Mensa smart to pick it up in a little under two months with little practice time between games) and wouldn't hit the floor for significant minutes until he did. I understand why they didn't pull the trigger, but they also should have addressed the back court problem long before the trade deadline. That's just imho though As for the original post, it sounds like stuff that any NBA coach would say, regardless if his name was Van Gundy or Adelman or Riley... pretty much everyone but Rivers.
yeah. thats what you do with people whose best talents arent scoring.... we all know that the winning teams always have a bunch of score first type of players at every position
