Ah... Now basso and TJ got nothing... Guess we'll have to go back to talking about the war and republican scandals.
What, if you don't apply yourself and work hard, you'd become the president? How is that a punchline?
Not that you'd become the president, but that you might become the president, and do a horrible job once you got there. Just like Bush. That is the joke because he made it to the Presidency, but because he didn't work hard at his education he is stuck in Iraq, having screwed it up so bad. Of course the idea of a punchline is that it isn't supposed to be realistic necessarily.
It should be, but most jokes just aren't. This one wasn't. 9 times out of 10 if someone says "Two guys walk into a bar..." or whatever one of the standard joke setups are, I cringe because most likely it won't really be funny. It just won't. It also isn't a crime worth news coverage if someone botches an already lame joke. But this one gave a party that is grasping out at things like a drowning cat, the chance to temporarily catch old of something because it be twisted to have a different target than was initially intended. Now jokes that have different set ups more usually found in skits, better movies, and the rare television show are a different matter.
Not even. It should not be easily confused with a really rough reality of military service when you are a politican ostensibly trying to distance your party from the perception that you spit on troops defending our country. I am not worked up about this because it is itself a big deal. Obviously, i'd rather have kerry than bush. The reason I am worked up is that in order to have a democratic or progressive or even thoughtful president, we need people who can read a room, communicate to people, and not demand so much patience from people like me, who support their core values and beliefs. They need to not be so much work to support. And the dearth of decent democratic leadership absolutely is abig deal, relevant, and timely. Unfortunately, we had to be reminded of it now; hopefully it does not cost us momentum. Suffice to say, we are off message. John Kerry should be talking about the following: If elected in 2006 congressional races, Democrats will: 1. Implement the recommendations of the 9/11 commission. 2. Focus our military resources on those who attacked us on 9/11. 3. Implement a strategy (details, please) on how to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. 4. Address the climate change crisis in a meaningful way etc. etc. Why the hell John Kerry has gotten even one person talking about his jokes, Tony Snow, the educational demographics of our troops, and that preposterous picture of him in that suit is totally beyond me. He sucks.
Sort of off topic.... but does anyone else wish the other former presidents would speak up. Say... Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, even George H.W. Bush. Guys, your country needs you one more time...
Kerry is an idiot. First he loses an election because he says something really stupid (first i voted for it before i voted against it or whatever)....and now he mucks up his party once again. And for the record - he should apologize. Especially since he served.
Traditionally ex-Presidents do not try to sway elections. This is why Bush Sr does not campaign on behalf of his son.
I love what John kerry did for my salvadoran people in the 80's,when that evil doer reagan was supporting terrorists in central america......HOWEVAHH, Kerry just fumbled and turned the football over with 8 seconds left. All he had to do was kneel down(keep his mouth shut)and let time run out, grrrr!!
What a coincidence that as soon as I watched the Youtube clip abc13 showed a short thing about Kerry's apology. Kerry apologized for saying something that he claimed could be 'misinterpreted.' What a load of Shizzlit. It's not about us MISINTERPRETATING... it's about him MISCOMMUNICATING.
I disagree....most of Carter's criticism has come in 2005, way too late to have swayed the 2004 election. Carter neither campaigned nor made noise during the run-up to nov 04...unless you count his speech at the DNC in July...which is fairly typical role. Imagine the mess we'd have if ex-presidents started speaking out on the eve of elections. It's sad that you have to constantly try to fling mud at the Democrats simply because you're a conservative. It's like all that matters to you in winning...and the Democrats might as well be terrorist to you... I really don't understand it...not from you, and your Republican bashing counterparts, you just see Republicans as racist boobs. How do yall learn to demonize each other so much?
