Isn't it telling the GOP has countless real scandals tarnishing their name this election cycle, and the most glaring one the Dems have is the GOP trying to spin a joke about Bush into a scandal.
i think he does. he offended alot of vets and current military and he owes them an apology. whether or not kerry thought his comments were offensive is irrelevant. fact is he did offend. it is not up to him to decide who gets offended by what he says. i know what he meant and it is obvious that the neocons are playing a little game with this, but if he had just apologized for offending any military and done a better job of clarifying his "joke" this would already be a non-story. instead, he is making it more of a distraction which makes the conspiracy theorist in me think he is doing his skull and bones brother another favor.
are u.s. troops in iraq not conducting door to door searches at times? what do you call it when dudes with machine guns kick in your door in the middle of the night? are those iraqi families not being terrorized? in vietnam, did some of our troops not commit murder and rape?
i suppose in your little mind republican senator lindsey graham is also a traitor who looks down upon servicemen? he said that american soldiers are committing rape and murder at abu-ghraib. is he a traitor? im really curious what you think. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told reporters, "The American public needs to understand we're talking about rape and murder here. we're not just talking about giving people a humiliating experience." He did not elaborate. or donald rumsfeld? regarding the abu ghraib photos, he told Congress last year, after viewing a large cache of unreleased images: "I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe.” They show acts "that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel and inhumane," is rumsfeld a traitor? he is calling the troops sadistic, cruel and inhumane.
LOL, all republicans should send John Kerry a thank you card if they can win 2- 3 more seats from this. And John Kerry can really kiss his 2008 presidental nomination goodbye. LOL
At this stage I really don't think this will change anyone's mind. Kerry ****ed up the punchline to a joke, Bush ****ed up a war. Take your pick But you're right about 08.
I think there is a large list of Democrats ahead of John Kerry that would get the bid in 08 anyway. The man clearly doesn't have what it takes on that big a stage. I think he just royally screwed up a "joke" here, but even without this incident, I didn't see how he would make the final cut come 08.
harold ford, jr. is demanding kerry apologize: http://www.news2wkrn.com/vv/2006/11/take_down_this_kerry_and_apolo.html [rquoter]Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. issued a statement this morning calling on U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to apologize for comments that Republicans including President Bush contend disparage U.S. troops in Iraq. “Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Rep. Ford said. “He needs to apologize to our troops.” But Rep. Ford, who served as an honorary co-chairman of Sen. Kerry’s 2004 failed presidential bid, said that the senator’s “words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms. They deserve a plan for victory as good as they are, and as senator I intend to see they get one.” Speaking to students Monday in California, Sen. Kerry urged students to make the most of their educational opportunities, the Los Angeles Times has reported. “If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq,” Sen. Kerry was quoted saying.[/rquoter] where's jim webb on this?
I disagree. It is like the fourth qt of a basketball game, at this stage, any small things could change the momentum. There are still six days until election and I am sure republicans will do everything they can to bring the incident into focus and distract general public from the real issues. John Kerry is a gift from heaven for the Republican Party. You know, I am hoping for a change on the top. However, if democrats manage to mess it up while everything goes their way, then these so called elites are equally stupid as their counterparts in the other party. No matter who is on top, it will make no difference.
Kerry is such a f'ing idiot for giving the repubs something to pounce on right before the elections. What a moron.
Its hilarious that in one incident a man can call someone a racial slur "macaca" and Oh he misspoke. He meant it about his hair....blah blah blah. But in the next incident, you want to derail a whole political party for a poor job of delivering a jab at the stupidest, biggest ignoramus, country deserting, war evading, WMD lying, Katrina Fema Brownine your doing a heck of a job, constitution breaking, illegal wire tapping, Halliburton back scratching, bisch and your panties are in a wad. Huh go figure.
Is Kerry the easiest political target EVER? This whole fiasco brings back GREAT memories from the 2004 race.
more dems distance themselves: [rquoter]Kerry Campaign Events Cut as Democrats Criticize Troops' Remark By Roger Runningen Nov. 1 (Bloomberg) -- Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts canceled campaign appearances with Democratic congressional candidates in three states after members of his own party criticized his remarks about the Iraq war and U.S. troops. Kerry won't appear today in Mankato, Minnesota on behalf of Tim Walz, a Democrat challenging Republican Representative Gil Gutknecht. The decision to cancel ``ultimately'' was Kerry's, said Walz spokeswoman Meredith Salsbery. Bruce Braley, a Democrat running for Iowa's 1st Congressional seat, asked Kerry not to campaign with him tomorrow, the Quad-Cities Times reported. Braley thought Kerry's remarks suggesting people with less education ``get stuck in Iraq'' were inappropriate, the paper said, citing Braley spokesman Jeff Giertz Kerry also won't appear today in Philadelphia with U.S. Senate candidate Bob Casey, ABC News reported. Casey's race to unseat Republican Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania could be pivotal to Democrats' hopes to gain control of the Senate. In Montana, Jon Tester, the Democratic challenger to incumbent Senator Republican Senator Conrad Burns, also sought to distance himself from Kerry. ``Senator Kerry's remarks were poorly worded and just plain stupid,'' Tester said in a statement late yesterday. ``He owes our troops and their families an apology.'' President George W. Bush is scheduled to campaign for Burns in Montana tomorrow. Kerry's spokesman confirmed the senator has canceled the appearances. ``We made a decision not to allow the Republican hate machine to use Democratic House candidates as proxies in their distorted spin war in which once again they're willing to exploit brave American troops,'' David Wade said in a statement. `Stuck in Iraq' Kerry, while campaigning in California Oct. 30 for gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides, said: ``Education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq.'' Bush yesterday accused Kerry of insulting troops in Iraq and said he should apologize. Kerry said Republicans were feigning outrage over a ``botched joke,'' and said Bush ought to apologize for misleading Americans over the war. The Republican National Committee today rushed out a video clip headlined ``Kerry insults our troops'' with a replay of the senator's remarks. [/rquoter]
Yes and exactly. Plus he is totally clueless to it. The fact that is working out his swift boat resentment issues RIGHT NOW shows how fantastically pitiful a political animal he is. If he were working those issues out over something he was correct about, it would still be terrible terrible timing. The fact that he is doing it over something he said wrong is completely inexcusable. And, think about this for second - he was nominated in large part because he was the most 'electable.' Howard Dean - or even Al Gore - probably represented the true vibe of the democrats in '04 - anti war, very very pissed, etc - but Kerry got the nod because he was deemed "electable." What a joke. He's not electable - he is just a milquetoast politician with chip on his shoulder about being a milquetoast politician. He makes Dick Gephardt look like Bill Freaking Clinton. One of many lessons Dems need from '04 is to nominate someone with some communication skills and some freaking guts to vote and speak views which might seem unpopular. Kerry only has sack when he is being defensive or getting personally attacked, none when he is trying to articulate something cogent or new or important. It comes off self-serving because it is self serving. Kerry's DNA is precisely what ails our party. So enjoy this one, Trader, you're dead on this time.
I'm not sure why this is even as big a deal as it is. Which is more important? The military graphing Iraq's slide to toward chaos or a botched joke, but somenody not up for reelection?
I wish his wife would make an appearance. She was always good for some controversial remarks back in the day. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13018908/ Kerry cancels 3 campaign events after remarks Senator won't make appearances with Dem candidates following uproar MANKATO, Minn. - The flap over what Sen. John Kerry calls his “botched joke” has prompted the Democrat to cancel campaign appearances over the next two days, officials said Wednesday. Meanwhile, the rhetoric between Kerry and the White House continued to escalate. Bush’s spokesman pressed Kerry to apologize for a comment Republicans say was disrespectful of U.S. fighting forces in Iraq, saying he “put gasoline on the fire” of an already sizzling midterm election campaign.
Oh....? I thought you were saying: "Don't study or you'll be president!" makes no sense because that doesn't happen, when, in actuality, it does!
