no he doesnt. as a real texan i am deeply offended when people call him a texan. bush is a poser.

what if kerry is doing his skull and bones brother another favor with his comments? something to give 'temporary' and his party a little boost before the elections? ('temporary' is dubya's skull and bones secret name, fyi) he already took a dive once for his fellow bonesman in 04 - im sure he would be more than happy to do it again. look at it - this is horrible press for the democrats just days before the election. there is no way that kerry didnt know the kind of reaction he would generate.

and as to the question of whether or not he should apologize, yes he should - i get his point that he was attacking bush and not the troops, but he needs to realize that even though he wasnt trying to offend anyone, he did and he needs to apologize.

    Here's a question...

If John Kerry was talking about the military then why would he say "stuck in Iraq?" Why not include Afghanistan or just say "or you'll get stuck in the army, marines, navy, etc.?"

    Hmm...

    Yeah.

    Distortion.

For the Dems' sake -- not that I care -- Kerry just needs to shut the f*** up and disappear, at least until the elections, or preferably forever.

Kerry or other less-than-likable characters in the Democratic party speaking publicly about anything at this crucial stretch is the Repub's best chance to somehow 'salvage' the midterm elections.

    Just saying...

I don't recall Fitzgerald closing the investigation.

We're not going to change the topic.

The topic is the failed policy in Iraq not some non story about a flubbed punchline.

American Legion to Sen. Kerry: Apologize Now

INDIANAPOLIS, October 31, 2006 - The National Commander of The American Legion called on Sen. John Kerry to apologize for suggesting that American troops in Iraq are uneducated.

“As a constituent of Senator Kerry’s I am disappointed. As leader of The American Legion, I am outraged,” said National Commander Paul A. Morin. “A generation ago, Sen. Kerry slandered his comrades in Vietnam by saying that they were rapists and murderers. It wasn’t true then and his warped view of today’s heroes isn’t true now.”

While addressing a group of college students at a campaign rally in Pasadena, CA., Monday, Kerry suggested that they receive an education or “if you don’t, you’ll get stuck in Iraq.”
“While The American Legion shares the senator’s appreciation for education, the troops in Iraq represent the most sophisticated, technologically superior military that the world has ever seen,” Morin said. “I think there is a thing or two that they could teach most college professors and campus elitists about the way the world works.

“And while we are on the topic of education, why doesn’t the senator and his comrades in Congress improve the GI Bill so all of today’s military members – reserves and guard included – can achieve the educational aspirations that the senator so highly values?” Morin said. “The senator’s false and outrageous attack was over-the-top and he should apologize now.”

The 2.7-million member American Legion, www.legion.org, is the nation’s largest veterans organization.

I was speechless when I first heard the Kerry quote.

I'm all for you liberals supporting your party, candidates and politicians, but c'mon...you can't possibly try to defend Kerry on this one, this time. Even when he had the chance to apologize he refused and used it as another chance to bash Bush again.

Dude, the "you end up in Iraq" thing was a jab at Bush - he was saying "If you don't get an education, you get the country in Iraq," but it came out awkwardly. He wasn't saying the soldiers currently in Iraq were dumb.

He doesn't have anything to apologize for.

But when it's all you have...

That is what is kind of revealing about all of this. People were waiting for that genius Rove to unleash his "October surprise" and came up with nothing. Here we are, 6 days out from the election, and he's trying to replay 2004 with the distortions and smearing. This is not a story with legs, and if anything it will keep the topic on Iraq, since that is what Kerry is talking about.

Right now in Virgina people arent talking about this... They're talking about George Allen's staffers throwing around some dude for asking Allen a question.

If this is all Rove has then it's over...

So much for GOP confidence about keeping control of congress...

Education isn't IQ. It's quite possible to have a high IQ and a poor education or have a low IQ and a great education.

It's pathetic that the very group of people that the military prays on, the poor and uneducated, are being told the naked truth by Kerry and you have the audacity to try to smear it into a ridiculous ploy to attack Kerry's patriotism at election time. Could you be any more transparent?

This scratching and clawing at anything by Republicans to save their majority in Congress is just embarrassing. I can't wait to vote.

This is coming from a fan of women's basketball.

The funniest...or saddest part is, if John Kerry were a republican, Dems would be up in arms over this, and republicans would defend him. Titles are the only thing that matters now, people or ideas are no longer important.

Give me a break. When was the last time anyone brought up Afghanistan? He said stuck in Iraq because public opinion is against the war now.

You can't possibly believe what you typed can you? If he meant Bush why would he say "stuck in Iraq?" Bush took us to Afghanistan, also.

I'm amazed that you guys are engaged in the exact same type of spin that you accuse others of engaging in on a regular basis and have yet to see it.

I have plenty of friends in the armed services who are very well educated and some who aren't poor.
