I think Kerry is an idiot, who would do his party a service if he would just shut up until after the election. I didn't vote for him in the Democratic primary in Texas, before the '04 elections, because I felt that way. His saving grace, as a candidate in '04, is that he would have been a better President than George W. Bush. That sure as hell isn't saying much. The man will never be more than a Senator. If I were given the opportunity, I would tell him to his face that he is an idiot. He is not the Democratic Party. He is John Kerry, with foot planted firmly in mouth. Take the foot out, Kerry, and go hide somewhere for several days, OK? Thanks in advance. Keep D&D Civil.
Maybe you don't know what the word verbatim means. Let me post it for you from dictionary.com. Verbatim - –adverb 1. in exactly the same words; word for word: to repeat something verbatim. –adjective 2. corresponding word for word to the original source or text: a verbatim record of the proceedings. 3. skilled at recording or noting down speeches, proceedings, etc., with word-for-word accuracy: a verbatim stenographer. Show me where John Kerry called American soldiers "stupid" or "dumb." These are inferences made from purposely distorted quotes taken out of context.
Did you really post this? Do us all a favor and don't bring down the intelligence average of our men and women in uniform. For god's sake, don't enlist. Keep D&D Civil.
Even if he's made previous jokes about Bush the fact that he doesn't mention it in this quote means to me that it was not a simple joke about Bush. It's not pathetic to chastise one for a slam on the intelligence of those serving our country right now. I encourage you to imagine if Bush/Cheney said the same thing. What would your reaction be? You cannot deny that Kerry intended to at least suggest that our troops are of below average intelligence. Well, you could but you'd be lying to yourself.
I don't see how his remarks(taken at face value) can be defended. Who gives a crap if he served in the military? That doesn't give him the right to label the men and women in uniform as uneducated. If he meant to say something else, then clarify those remarks in your press conference, shut the f up, and get off the stage. And to anyone on here who came to Kerry's defense by calling our troops mentally inferior, you're a jackass.
That's ridiculous logic. You have to mention someone's name in every sentence you utter so people will know who you are talking about? No, I'm sorry, that's just stupid.
Uh huh. "Purposely distorted"? He's speaking to a bunch of college kids here: "You know, education, if YOU make the most of it, if YOU study hard and YOU do your homework, and YOU make an effort to be smart, YOU can do well. If YOU don’t, YOU get stuck in Iraq." That's his quote, verbatim. If he meant something else, he needs to give out a better explaination that his/your "blame the GOP" screed. Like I said earlier, I doubt that's what he meant, but it's sure as hell what he said. I'm not sure how in the world you can't see that this quote is derogatory to the soldiers in Iraq....cutesy semantic games & dictionary definitions aside.
Kerry has been insulting the troops for over 30 years. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised by this. It is an egregious insult to the thousands of college educated officers serving in Iraq, as well as the others. Was Kerry referring to the West Point graduates who are leading troops in Iraq, when he insinuated that the troops lacked education? What an insult. All this coming from a guy who made a mockery of his enlisted time -- by documenting it with a video camera, and leaving as soon as technically possibly by faking 3 superficial injuries and running home to mama. Of course, all of that was carefully choreographed for selfish political reasons. Kerry has always been anti-military, and he showed his true colors with his latest outburst. He's busted for arrogantly thumbing his nose at our heroes serving abroad. He's a traitor.
Kerry's remarks were dumb. Whether it is what he meant or not, he called our troops uneducated or at least that they didn't apply themselves. Being uneducated is different than being stupid or dumb. He didn't call them stupid or dumb. Brightside, your comments were totally off. You mentioned an article that talks about lowering of educational standards for troops. It doesn't have anything to do with their intelligence. It certainly doesn't mean they ill disciplined, nor does it mean that they are worse disciplined when compared with their counterparts in other nations. You certainly didn't show that it was "generally" the case as you claimed.
Being college educated does not ensure intelligence. Nor does being an officer. I'd love to see what an elitist like yourself would think of our military if you actually served and had to put up with them. I think you would be amazed. Thinking that people are morons is not unpatriotic or traitorous. If that was the case you would be in serious trouble.
After your comments about veterans, you have the least room to talk about support for our troops of anyone here. Kerry's comments were stupid. That is plain. However through his service both to the military, his fellow crewmates during the war for which he volunteered, and his voting record, Kerry has shown far more support for our troops even with these recent idiotic comments than you could hope to show in the rest of your days if you lived to be 229.
