"Before long, he went to the Sam Cassell version of McGrady. McGrady has one of the best up fakes in the league and got it by copying a guy who had to use every trick in the book because there are few books he can clear with his vertical. McGrady was switching to Cassell in a playoff series when McGrady played for the Magic, Cassell with the Bucks, and while studying the tapes, took some of Cassell's moves for his own."

I guess "RA" on a team with Rafer Alston, Ron Artest and Rick Adelman wasn't enough. Now we need to start calling a Rockets writer "JF".

    He's not JF, he's J Figgy.

More on-topic, I know some of the one hand ball fakes he does seem similar to what Jordan used to do to blow by people.

So with you on that. I don't mind nicknames, but they should be at least a little creative.

Our generation is lazy now-a-days. Thinking of a nice nickname requires time and some sort of effort, hence now we got a bunch RA's, JF, etc etc. People just aren't creative anymore, too lazy for such efforts.

    Who? ;)

Anyway, for those too lazy ( :D ) to click the link, I thought it was also interesting how Feigen talks about McGrady changing the mechanics of his 3 point shot after watching tapes of himself. At least that throws the "TMac is lazy and doesn't work on his game in the offseason" out of the window.

That one step turnaround jumper is also sick.

Yeah, that was the interesting bit. McGrady thinks he's been getting too much elevation on the shot. On one hand, the higher you jump, the more difficult it is for defender to contest the shot. But, if you stay in the air too long, it's harder to get a consistent stroke each time. Brent Barry practically shoots a set shot, and the release looks exactly the same every time. Maybe McGrady saw that, and then looked at older tapes of himself, and decided to make a switch.

Hopefully it works out for him. If McGrady can shoot closer to 35% on threes this year, that will be huge.

Yes, I was talking to T-Mac last night and he said he is not going to elevate as much when he shoots those 3s. He was watching some tapes back in his Orlando days when he didnt elevate as much to shoot his 3s

It would be more huge if Tracy took fewer 3-pointers to start with, especially on fast breaks. He also needs to shut down the "heat check" shots from the parking lot. That would get your 35%. There may be an issue with his form, but shot selection is the main problem IMO.

What you say is also quoted almost word for word in the chronicle.

Well, back in the day, he used to elevate even greater on jumpshots.

I am very curious to see how T-Mac's jumper looks this season. If his FT's last night were any indication, we might be looking at a surprisingly efficient season from T-Mac this year.

He used those sorts of tricks to live at the line on Saturday, making up for what he could not do by hitting 8 of 9 free throws. After coming up short on those two drives, he hit one of two jumpers. He finished with 10 points and three minutes in his first 12 minutes of the preseason.

    Nice editing.
