LOL I was looking through free agent and draft only. Trading two 2nd rounders for an unknown QB and having him turn out to be elite? Yeah, Texans FO have brass balls.
Faneca supposedly gave up 6.5 sacks last season. To put that in perspective, how would a Texans fan react if Amobi Okaye could have a 6.5 sack season?
Ha, you have an interestingly positive spin color coding scheme there. How about Ahman Green, four years/$23 million? Jacques Reeves, 5 years/$20 million? Dan Orlovsky, 3 years/$9 million? Antonio Smith, 5 years/$35 million? Anthony Weaver, 5 years/$26.5 million?
I think there is no doubt the Texans are doing exceptional the last few years drafting players...FA, not so much, but we are past that...the extremely high standard of drafting (as illustrated very well by DonnyMost) is a reasoning we are now a winning team, and will continue the upward trend... Can't wait for the season to start!
Dude, I was posting towards a troll. You really think I want to bother giving him an objective view? Maybe if I were talking about the Texans to you, but not him. The Texans have a pretty damn good track record of player acquisition, even including their misses. There was really no point in including them for the purposes of this discussion.... plus it would've taken me all damn night... lots of guys go through the rotating doors of an NFL team.
Smith starter. Orlovsky....well he's good at making sure the trainers keep Schaub healthy. Reeves Green Weaver bad backup Makes me want to puke
In Dan's defense, he's a backup for a reason. Look around the league, how many backup QBs are *for sure* better than him? And is his contract over the median? Not really. Smith's contract was a big swing, but it's no fail just yet. Green and Weaver are really the two biggest busts of the Kubiak era.
Exactly! Given their past history, I'm not confident they can address the OL needs in free agency. I was hoping they'd address the guard-center issue in this draft but they didn't so I'm girding up for (yet) another year of the ZBS and little to no running game unless Kubiak (wakes up and) tweaks the system to allow more versatility. But given his stance so far I don't see that happening.
ChronicleTexans John McClain reports the Texans are interested in G Alan Faneca, who was released by the Jets. ChronicleTexans Kubiak: "I think everybody in football is going to be interested in him. We're going to check him out to see what he's interested in doing with his career.
Not sure how Faneca's game would translate to the ZBS...he mostly seems like a brutal force that can get a good push on his man. Regardless, Id think he could handle the duties.
I don't have an answer right this moment. I'm hopeful that a good center or guard is released due to salary reasons and not age/injury.
http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5135095 According to this article, Faneca said he probably will sign somewhere for the veterans minimum. The Texans are close his home in Thibodaux, LA and he went to school at Lamar Consolidated in Rosenberg. I don't think his hometown team the Saints will interest since they already have two very good guards in Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks. He is unhappy with Jets' decision and the Texans get to play them this upcoming season. He isn't much a pass protector but is a damn good run blocker. He couldn't be any worse than Kasey Studdard, Chris Myers, and Chris White. I would think Texans have a decent shot at him with all things considered.
