I get the fact that Fatty might be an insensitive jerk from time to time. His posting might be a little insensitive this time, but its not overboard. Its not like someone on this Hangout forum actually knew someone on the plane. So I'm assuming what happened on the flight did not affect anyone here too personally. I remember when Fatty made a joke when this high school kid drowned in a pool some time last year. Fatty promptly got banned for a few weeks. At that time he deserved it because the story/thread was extremely personal to a Hangout poster here because the kid who drowned was the forum member's best friend or something like that. I'm just saying there are varying levels of leeway that should be allowed when making light of a serious situation. Not every situation is cut and dry in the way someone should respond.
I am sure you're a wonderful person. I guess the difference between my "anger" and your "jokes" is that I don't start threads about it and then whine when people call me on my behavior. If I gave a crap about you I would say that your constant attention whoring makes you seem like a lonely, pathetic guy. But, I don't. Now go back to scanning the 'net for a bus accident in Warsaw so you can start a thread making an oh-so-clever clever Polish joke.
That was particularly harsh. FFB making that joke was untimely and crude (but we all are) but your comment was out of line and personal.
Nothing new really. They're just still searching for the wreckage. Although, according to Wikipedia a Brazilian newspaper named "O Globo" claims the search teams have located wreckage of something off of the Senegalese coast, but that they can't confirm anything at this time. I guess there's a chance it could be wreckage from something different.
truly sad.. my heart goes out to the family and friends of the victims.. hopefully they find something, anything....
Why is it any different if someone knew someone on the plane or not? I don't get that. So if I had a coworker on this flight, then fatty "would deserved to get banned". But if not, then its just a joke and people are overeacting to how crappy and poorly timed and unfunny it really is? I don't get that.
Because 250k-300k people die a day on this earth. Unless you think death is just off the joke table in general then it really gets down to how personally it affects you. You don't go around depressed all day about those 300k people do you?
So let me get this straight. If I knew someone on this flight, then fatty deserves to get banned. Yes or No?
That's because you are just saying a number. If you pick one of those people, and tell us about them, or how they died, or what family they left behind, etc. etc., what is your first inclination? Empathy? Too feel a bit of sadness for the person, the family they left behind? Or to make a joke about their death? Some people are those type of people. Some people aren't. Sometimes the situation makes it easier to have one of those two outcomes. But some people might respond the same way no matter what the situation. Rarely can those two types of people relate to each other.
But its not valid after the fact. It would be valid for a banning if you started a thread saying you lost your best friend on that flight. And then Fatty came in making jokes about the flight crashing. I could see someone getting banned for that. In that drowning thread, this Forum member started a thread in which he said he lost a friend and then Fatty came in and made a joke about it. Thus the temporary ban. Big difference.
The first thing I thought of was how horrible the whole thing was. But I'm not going to flay FFB for an untimely joke. Take the Darwin awards. You read about some guy who straps some jet rockets to his car, goes to the desert and flies himself into the side of a mountain. The first thing I think of is... what an idiot. But doesn't he have a family? He had dreams unfilled too (stupid as they obviously were). Is there a lot to be sad about in his situation too?
I'd like to kindly request that everybody just drops this little argument. It's really quite painful to read plus i'm an aviation guru -- I see new posts thinking I might be reading something quality or pertinent to the topic then I come in here and see a bunch of crying and attention whoring.
