Anybody else out there with an aviation background? Any theories as to why the aircraft lost cabin pressurization?
Further sidetrack: I find those 'French are weak' type jokes incredibly lame. It's like someone saying 'Texans are rednecks OMG LOL I MADE A FUNNY'. It's so old, and not clever at all.
It's not even the point of making fun of another country or their people. It's just the lack of humor. Like using yet another 'Houston we have a problem' title for a Houston Rockets article. Just so old and overused. Just MHO of course, since some others here obviously still find the joke funny.
So how many people have to die before folks can be sensitive and find jokes about their deaths disturbing? 500, 1000, 2000, 3000?
Yeah, it could definitely be a number of things. I'm just trying to think of the most plausible scenario that can explain what little information we already know. My guess at this point is probably a unique lightening strike that somehow fried both the electrical and backup systems. Should you lose cabin pressurization in that scenario? Probably not but even if you did the flight crew's immediate response would have been to descend to 10,000 feet or less. Perhaps they descended accordingly but due to the electrical failure were unable to control their descent thereby going straight into the ocean? That still doesn't explain their sudden and drastic drop from radar, though. To go from 35,000 feet to NOTHING is pretty unusual -- to say the very least.
I'm with Fatty on this. I don't see why it is a big deal (other than it being out of the ordinary) or mainly why people are outraged. There probably are 150-200 motor vehicle deaths on any given day in the USA. You don't really see folks mourning those losses. There are also about 1500 deaths a day from heart disease. People focus on sensationalist stories and worry about things like plane crashes when there are much bigger things to worry about.
Dude, we all know it's tragic. Interesting that nobody found the "LOST" references disturbing. Care to explain that? Haven't seen any outrage on those posts. I get it. Some people on this board don't like me.
I watched one of the Discovery or Nat.Geographic shows on Airline disasters some months back and I believe most planes are built to withstand Lightning strikes. It would have to be something else as you wrote in your post.
That's what I was going to say. It's OK to compare an accident to a TV SHOW... but not make make reference to a country's long line of quitting by using a plane in a metaphor.
Meh. I'm coming to the conclusion that some people have to "meet" me to understand it isn't meant as mean-spirited. It's just who I am. Hell, there was a birthday card being passed around the office the other day with the typical well-wishes. I wrote "Go to Hell, Jim R." Most folks in the office thought it was funny. Nobody expressed outrage.
I'd imagine if Fatty, or you, or anyone else, specifically made a thread on some death (by car, heart attack or otherwise), only added commentary that was an attempt to be funny in an obviously disrespectful (of the death) way, there'd be some outrage. I don't watch Lost so didn't even understand those comments. Personally, I find light-hearted humor disrespectful in this situation, though am not outraged by it...and think it better suited when added to a thoughtful comment (you know..."oh how tragic and sad. RIP....[space, space, space, etc.]...joke time.")
I find all the "jokes" regarding this disturbing, not just yours. That is why I did not single you out or reply directly to one of your posts.
I've met you a couple of times and still don't like you BTW, you missed out on some good grub this Saturday, you should have made the trip.
This is the thing though dude, whenever somebody takes issue with something you say... you always want to turn it into "people have it in for me" argument. Maybe its just something you said was stupid instead of a case of people just not understanding "you being you" We understand who you are and what you do, its not a big conspiracy.
