I guess you just proved when you assume, you dont ALWAYS make an ass out of u and me. Besides, VOR never ASSUMED you were christian, he just said you were dishing out christian backlash, which you were. Cant everybody just get along ------------------

My bad....I didn't mean all Christians But I still dont see what spelling on a BBS board has to do with the math of a bunch of old Christian people. I mean, they are two different things. There are hundreds of things people can be crticized about. Now, if he had made a math error, that woudl be something completely different, cause then it would have been hypocritical. ------------------
Many Christians believe that only through Christ can one get into heaven. That is why there are missionaries, and that is why they are mailing videos. I am surprised at the amount of flak that Christians as a whole receive. I would say that overall, the world is a better place if you take all of the Christian influences into account. ------------------ "We messed with the Bull, and we got the horns." -- Larry Brown "quote" from AirBullard.com
a friend of mine forced me to watch this movie called "God's Army" while I was at his house. it's basically a Mormonism recruitment tape. it was pretty silly though. it had missionaries trying to convert prostitutes and your standard miracles. (But it was still better than Gladiator!) ------------------ [This message has been edited by outlaw (edited March 31, 2001).]
Yup, that has been happening to me too for the past few years. The junk almost always goes on a trip from the mailbox straight to a trashcan, courtesy of me. Plus the credit card companies also have been calling me by phone once or twice a week trying to sell me credit cards. I cut them off and terminate the call quick, else they'll talk nonstop for 5-10 minutes straight. ------------------
But there WASN'T a flaw in it. You were questioning their 8.5 million number vs. the 20 million population number of Texas. As I pointed out (which you neglected to respond to), they would not be sending a video to every man, woman and child. They would be sending the video to households. ------------------
Bobrek, C'mon man. Have you forgotten that "for everyone taken one will be left behind". These guys are just going by the book. And if only Jesus could see these savages, now, he may of not been so generous in his mercy. So they projected that out of 20million, only 8.5 million had a decent shot at redemption, if of course the video tape was watched. ------------------
ok, now you are being a dip shyt too. This is getting rediculus. here comes the post you seem to need inorder to validate your existance. sorry for the frustration, BUT COME ON PEOPLE IT WAS A FRIKIN JOKE!!! the population of texas is the 20 million something I quoted before.. FACT the post which I responded to stated that the group intended to send a tape to every texan, all 8.5 million. I dont give a damn how you belive they came up with that number. It dosnt matter. I was just pointing out the difference between what the christians CONCIDERED all texans, with what IS in fact all texans. If you belive this to be some advanced math formula(exaduration), you are on crack. if the origional poster mis-quoted the news story, is that MY fault?? hell I was just making a frikin joke. Would you really think that a personcould belive that all christians are poor mathmeticians?? hell my statistical evidence would not even point to that conclustionany way. poor researcher, maybe, terrible historians/geologists, probably, but the math comment was just to point out the difference in the numbers. If you got all bent with me and said, "but the world IS 500yrs old, we would have a different issue. I took info off a post, added facts, some sarcasm, a little humor, and you(collective) attack me. attack me for my math, my spelling, my assuming a poster was cristian, when he really was. WTF??? I have to uphold that I am the recipiant of some cristian backlash. No wonder there are no christian commedians... wait, there are some, but they are more bitter than funny ------------------ Hanta-Force Paintball www.hanta-force.com
Sort of like social service factions judging for themselves whether or not a parent is raising a child proper. Sort of like them supplying children in school with the numbers to call if the child even once gets spanked by his parent. Tell me again how sex education has anything to do with real schooling except to intrude into parental rights. The fact of the matter is these school factions are intolerable and also unconstitutional, according to the idea of separation of church and state. The supreme court has had two cases which define for them what is considered a religion. One is United States vs. Seager. The other is United States vs. Welsh. Both argued to expand the term religion to include their own unconvential faiths in the context of the conscientious objector to war. The reason no one brings it up (it seems to me) is that the government has so much at stake here. I mean it really would be a shame if the government, for the betterment of the whole of america, couldn't push their own ideals down the throats of christain america. ------------------ I am an invisible man.

Explain to me what this has to do with my post and religion. I don't exactly follow your logic comparing social services looking in on children and corporal punishment in schools to how religion is intolerant. That has very little to do with religious belief. If enough people want the laws to change, they can get them changed. If you don't like the government's intrusion, you have options. Again, this has very little to do with religion and its intolerance or lack of patience with MY life. Your comparison is not a good one. And? What is the problem there? Again, it is a law versus a belief. Again, you are left with plenty of choices. If you don't like the laws, you can push to change them. If you don't like the schools, you can home school your kids or send them to a private school. It's called freedom. I have choices as well. I said I didn't care for the intolerance or patience of Christians, but I also said that the video didn't really bother me. I would just exercise my right to put it in a landfill if I got it. You are stretching to work out some reasoning here but your logic doesn't follow. If you believe the government is a religion, well there isn't much I can say about that except that I disagree. ------------------ AAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!
I am not stretching Jeff. I agree your post has nothing to do with schools, but you seem to be quick to label christians as intolerant without seeing that every group or faction is intolerant. Tell me what you believe, and I can almost bet that it also has some faction or another preaching intolerance. The reason I brought up the church and state idea is because I wanted to connect the factions in schools with a kind of religion, which I don't think you see it that way. Private schools are not the answer because you still have to be diverse in your religious teaching. If you want to teach one religion, you have to teach all religions, and most people cannot afford to home school either. I think it is very hypocritical to single religious groups as intolerant when other factions and the government are much more overtly intolerant. And yes, it irks me to some degree, so I am going to respond in the manner I did. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
The comparison is that many christians believe in spaking children not giving them a time out or whatever. But if you spake a child these days, you are subject to lose your child to social services. Is that or is that not intolerance? ------------------ I am an invisible man.
You also cannot just compose a brief and expect it to be heard by the supreme court. The brief is first subject to the attorney general then to the supreme court. Suffice to say, personal interests play a major role in which briefs are heard and which have a legit chance at being accepted as unconstitutional. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
I've been reading articles about religious things on this BBS for awhile now whenever the come up. What I find interesting is that there has been far more intolerance shown toward Christianity than there has been by people who claim to be Christians. Often this intolerance is displayed by people who see themselves as paragons of tolerance. Perhaps they need to reevaluate themselves. Maybe, just maybe, they are not as tolerant as they like to think. They are tolerant when something falls within the realm of things they can personally allow; they are very intolerant of things they can't. They preach it (for lack of a better expression), but they don't really practice it--not really. ------------------ The sky is falling!
TRAJ, Let me just explain my position on tolerance. I am not tolerant at all when it comes to what I believe. I pull no punches. I have never claimed to be tolerant. But Jeff and others like him like to label christians as intolerable to elicit an overt response from us. Then they are free to point at our unchristian-like ways. But if the bible was read with more understanding, I think, you would see that the bible does not just tell you to turn the other cheek. Remember that Jesus himself went to a synagogue and busted the place up. I am a rabid believer, so what? I am certainly not perfect; I still have my faults. ------------------ I am an invisible man. There are very few of us who can own up to the label of "tolerant." We all have bias. I don't think there is any harm in admitting that. Religion is certainly biased. That is the nature of belief. The basic tennants of traditional Christianity are exclusionary. They do not include the belief that members of other religions or those not belonging to any religious belief will be able to enter a life after death other than hell. There are some obvious exceptions to that. There are Christians who believe that heaven is open to many. Christian mystics are among those who follow a more non-traditional approach to the beliefs of Christ. Many are monks who live a life of seclusion. They believe in the teachings of Jesus as one way to the afterlife. Even the Pope said recently that there is reason to believe that followers of other faiths may enter heaven. There are many Christians who do practice tolerance of other religions or beliefs. There are many who openly support the beliefs of others as equal to their own if only different. So, I generalized. In my experience, Christians are not as tolerant. I was born and raised in a very traditional conservative Christian family. I was a born again, anti-abortion, Bible-thumping Christian until my early 20's. During those years, it was RARE if I met someone who spoke well of other religions. Mostly, they made fun of them, believed them to be inferior, pitied them and their path to hell or simply called them heathens. In fact, it wasn't until my late teens that I came across a couple of people who believed differently. They were responsible for opening the door for me to other faiths and alternate ideas. I understand how you feel. When I was a Christian, I thought everyone was against me too. I thought that the world survived just to make my life as a believer more difficult. I wore my religion as a badge of honor and believed that Christians were meant to suffer this life waiting for a better one. What I learned is that I still value the teachings of Jesus and I still value the beliefs that raised me. However, I also value other beliefs as well. I realize that every religion must suffer persecution at the hands of non-believers and every non-believer at the hands of religion. I think it is important to point out how I view intolerance. I view it as the unwillingness to accept someone else's point of view as equal to your own. Because some Christians believe that their beliefs are superior, it colors their actions. Some religions believe that theirs is but part of a whole. Others are still waiting for something. Others still carry themselves with the same superiority that the Christians I describe do. At its heart, Christianity is a beautiful religion full of truth just like Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Judiasm, Hinduism and every other religious belief out there. When I was in a Lutheran school, I was taught that other religions were of the devil and that they were to be feared and guarded against. Because they reviled the devil and equated other religions with him, that belief colored how I treated others with divergent beliefs. It is difficult for me to see how a person raised with the belief that other religions are, in some way, the devil's way of tricking us into hell (that's what I and many I know where taught) can be tolerant and respectful of other religions. I understand. It was nearly impossible for me to change. I know many Christians who treat the world and other people with love and respect just as Jesus did. I know others who do not. It is true that other religions practice this same intolerance at times just as they practice love and respect. My concern is not with Christians who practice tolerance but with those who do not. ------------------ AAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!
